#1 Position to Upgrade?

Which starting position is the most important to upgrade?

Two months ago, people might have said PG (Scoot). Some people may say C, as in dump Ayton, but they have Clingan to step in. Is Shaedon in a slump? The Blazers might be able to draft a star SG. Where is Deni's best spot? I think PF. Finally, I was looking at upgrading SF in the draft, but are any rookies after Bailey a clear upgrade (on offense).

If you could upgrade one starting position, which one would it be, and why?

Interesting question… it’s weird with the Blazers… they don’t “need” an upgrade as such, they need a star, regardless of positions. They actually have an amazing supporting cast, but no star to anchor it.

So the answer is all, or none? Idk

I know, right? This occurred to me when I realized the Blazers probably won't be getting Flagg or Bailey in the draft and the BPA was possibly PG or SG.

Before Scoots resurgence, I was thinking the best option might be to draft a PG, but now...

Kinda feels like Scoot has the highest ceiling of any of our options including the draft. Now the floor could be pretty low as well so it's a crapshoot but I'm inclined to say trade down or trade out altogether if a pg in the 6-10 range is the BPA. And honestly if we continue on the upswing it may not be bad to put together a package for a notable veteran leader to help mentor the young guys but id need to see scoot play on this level to finish the season before I jump to not taking a BPG point guard

I'm kind of ready for a new SG. Either someone to push Sharpe to be better or replace him. Sharpe used to do better on defense. He hardly appears to be trying anymore.

I've been pounding the table for the next LA, a big bodied PF that will fit between Deni/Camara and DC

Agree.

We need a young star and it honestly doesn't matter which position they play.

BPA.

No one one this team is so good that the FO should avoid drafting a superior replacement.

Agreed.
BPA

If you can't get a star, an off-ball sharp shooter (ie - JJ Reddick type) would be nice

While the correct answer is until this team has its’ franchise player, is BPA. I would say that the most important position to address would be SF/SG.

This is because I view Deni as a PF, & I think Camara is probably best coming off the bench as a 6th man,

I like Deni more, and his skill set more, but also feel like a true stud lock don defender like Camara should be in the starting lineup, mirroring your opponents best player's minutes. He doesn't add the same value off the bench that Deni would. Though I like starting them both if the rest of the pieces around them improve.

I think is answer is BPA, but I’d really like to see a PF to bang down low…

Interesting

What if the Blazers combined their draft pick with a current player to move up in the draft.

Shaedon + #8 for #3?

If the Blazers traded Shaedon, the side benefit would be saving $$ from his extension

Feels like we shouldnt be giving up our first on that package and maybe be getting more back but maybe I value shaedon higher

I know it's extreme. Believe me, the ghost of the Jermaine O'Neal trade is real.

But, I agree with fans suggesting we need a star. If Cronin isn't going to flat out tank, I don't know how we get there.

It'd be easier if we knew what we had in Scoot. I believe he is our best shot at a star outside of the draft. Highest potential ceiling but unfortunately maybe also the lowest potential floor of the 5 guys we discuss. But our success or failure in this rebuild feels largely tied to him as he's maybe the only one who in spots has looked like a primary floor general

Right.

I want Shaedon to be worth a max deal so bad, but he seems to only kick it into full "kick butt" mode occasionally.

It's a weird comparison, but in some ways Shaedons personality kind of reminds Clyde Drexler LITE. Laid back, smooth memtality with the ability to dominate, ESPECIALLY when he plays pissed off.

The talent is there. I think he's too young to give up on because if the talent and the mental ever line up we probably have a top 25 player. But as others have pointed out I can certainly see the fear of him becoming Andrew Wiggins and I don't think those fears are unwarranted.

I think a mentor could help, would love if B Roy or an nba veteran of that mold would give him some lessons during the summer
