Would they consider trading the 10th pick-salary filler for Grant-Williams (about $42M)Does Grant and Williams fit Udoka’s criteria, both have above average defense and Grant is a decent 3 point shooter for a 3-4. Not sure what kind of salary filler Houston would send back (Brooks-Londale combined is about $31M).

I can see them trading out of this draft. Charlotte would be a good partner since they have lightly protected Miami and Dallas picks and could use one of Coward or Bryant. One of them should still be on the board at 10.

Houston would consider trading the 10th...they are in win-now mode. But it wouldn't be for any player that Portland can offer

It would be closer to us attaching 11 to Grant + Williams to dump Grants deal than HOU actually paying 10 to take on 30M+ for the next 3 years w/ Grant.

It would be a bad contract if Grant wasn’t productive for the Rockets but if Grant and Williams could provide defense and stability to the Rockets and push them for a deep playoff push would it be worth it for the Rockets.

I think HOU is definitely trying to trade away the 10th pick, but could POR get it?

Green\Landale & #10 for Simons\Williams + 29' 1st (worst of)? Sounds a little rich for HOU IMO, unless HOU just wants off Green's deal....

The Rockets are trying to land a big fish, such as Durant, but are looking at other big names. Pick #10 will probably be needed to complete such a trade.

However, IF, the Rockets can pull off a big fish trade, it probably would include several of their young players. Portland may have an opportunity to be a third team. Or, after the trade is completed, the Rockets may need to plug some holes in their roster.

They may be open to trading future picks to add depth, such as from their 2027 stash. Considering the players Portland is offering. I doubt they would give up #10.

Zion isn't that bad, he only made like 15 million last season because he failed to meet all those conditions like weight and games played. It's actually one of the best contracts for a team out there. It's insane Griffin pulled that off. What does suck is that the full contract counts against the cap until the end of the season though.

You also forgot another contender for top -5 which Cronin is responsible for:

Or Sharpe for that matter...I could very easily see Cronin do something dumb with Sharpe.

I've heard/seen people talking about how contracts in the 30+M range aren't going to be viewed as that bad in coming years as the cap goes up and that amount becomes less of a % of the cap. I'm not sure I will ever get used to the amount of money going through the NBA these days.

If Houston is unable to land their big fish (KD-Giannis-Brown) what other option do they have to improve their team? The 10th pick wouldn’t necessarily take them over the top and challenge OKC in the west.

I tend to agree with this line of thinking and hope like hell it happens. If we turned Grant into the #10 pick this year, that would simply be awesome. But I wouldn't want to stop there... I would see if #10 and Scoot could move us up high enough to net ACE. Duke bigman with #11 and I'd be stoked going into next season.

If Houston doesn’t want to give up a lot of their youth for Durant — the $$$ player being Jalen Green — then the $$$ practically have to include FVV in his final year — plus, for instance, Jamari Smith Jr. and #10 and draft capital returned to PHX. [FVV is 31, makes $44.88M, and agreed with Houston to delay their p-opt decision on him until 6/29 when they’re looking to go with lower $$$ in a long-term]

PTD trades Grant + Time Lord + Scoot to PHX = FVV + JSJ + 10
PHX trades Durant = Grant + Time Lord + returned 2027 pick + Scoot
HOU trades 2027 PHX 1st + FVV + JSJ + 10 = Durant

[FVV plays a year then EC … Blazers getting books in order. JSJ previously connected to PTD. #10 and #11 net a taller PG (Demin or Jakucionis) and a forward (Essengue, Bryant, or Coward)]

Simons is a different trade.

That's way too good for Portland. We don't get 10 and Jabari for Scoot while getting to dump Grant.

It’s not 10, but it is 12 and Chicago wants to win.

1. Coby White is their PG. Lonzo is not healthy. Matas and Vucevic are players.
2. Take the owed pick and convert it to guaranteed as the 3rd best of the 3 2029 picks
2B. Even though it should not be needed, possibly convey right to swap with Milwaukee in ‘28
3. Go bigger trade or smaller trade.

Bigger trade: Grant + Ant + Murray + Reath = Lonzo + Jalen Smith + Zach Collins + Huerter + 12
Smaller (Grant-less) trade: Ant + Murray + Reath = Lonzo + Smith + 12

[Next season, Lonzo’s contract goes down to $10M and the final year is a t-opt at $10M / Collins is EC as is Huerter … who is a useful enough back-up]
