I think moving Simons was necessary but I don't understand why this would be the deal they would be interested in for him.

Yay, first round outs for the next 3-4 years with no all star and no path to getting one in the draft.

On the other hand; not resigning Simons is hopeful.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Baffling. We even added the second rounders?

I like Holiday more than Simons sure but would rather just watch Simons walk for absolutely nothing next year. Holiday has another 60 million dollars due after that. That is insane. This front office is crazy.

I get moving Simons, and I get them liking Holiday, he’s a great mentor for Scoot if you’re still invested in him… but Holidays contract is garbage.

Truly baffled by the trade. Glad they moved on from Simons, but essentially they still gave him his extension I expected… but that $$$ went to Holiday.

Maybe there’s more to come? Clearly investing in defense and building a core around Tou and Deni as far as I can tell. Expect Deni to be the main offensive focal point next year.

I knew Simons would be eventually traded. I kept saying that last season. There was no way you go into this season with Scoot as the backup again. And I did say he was going to be the easiest to move out of him, Grant and Ayton. Simons will likely come off the bench in Boston which is a role he's better suited for.

Welcome back to Portland Jrue Holiday. Do we flip him again?

If Ayton stays, it's because the front office thinks Clingan isn't quite ready to been a full-time starter. But not moving Ayton means we lose him for nothing in the summer of 2026. Although, it will clear a lot of cap space just to let him walk without moving him.

You have to match salaries. I kept saying that if the Blazers trade Simons, they're going to have to take back another big contract to make it work. Are they going to flip Jrue or keep him on as a mentor to make the defense better.

I think this is the year Deni really breaks out. And if he does what I think he will do this upcoming season, we will be a better team.

Im not convinced they can flip him without paying to unload him. We should've got 2 firsts out of them for this deal this is a horrible deal in today's NBA we got absolutely pillage. If youre gonna do this garbage deal at least get george not an over the hill jrue on a deal as bad if not worse than jerami. And ultimately for that money to me this means they view him as a starter. Yippee another veteran starting and another commitment to mediocrity...

you should but you probably need to send 2 FRPs to get buyers to sign up for this deal.. this is bad.

Cronin is an absolute idiot.

I'm fine with acquiring Jrue, but why on earth are we not getting draft compensation back in this deal?

That is absolutely baffling. Can we please sell this team and replace our entire front office??

Jrue has always been one of my favorite NBA players. When he was in NO, I wanted to trade CJ for him. Their contracts where almost indentical.

Now, with his new contract, Jrue's real value mabe as a mentor for Scoot, and Sharpe. He is still a solid multi position defender. But his O is on the decline.

Welcome Jrue, wish you were here sooner.

I love Jrue, but he's a slight negative value on that contract. (He definitely is more valuable than his raw numbers).

Why we are not getting value back simply puzzles me.

I do love me some Jrue. That contract though?

This trade is equally bad to the jerami signing, we went out of our way to pay for about a 20 million overpaid player when we could've got a protected first for ant probably..

We really should have gotten 28 and 32 here.

But assuming the FO wants to win now, which is more than an assumption at this point, then you have to assume we wouldn’t move Simons for filler and a late FRP.

Then you have to assume the FO would almost certainly resign Simons as they see him as a win now piece. Looking at probably 4 years and 25-30 per.

So taking all those assumptions I can live with this trade. I just have to convince myself we traded a resigned Simons for Holiday.

I certainly take Holiday given all the above.

This is how I am tricking myself into living with this trade lol

If we trade #11 to try and win now - this is going to be a tough watch as a Portland fan.

Unless Scoot or Sharpe take a serious jump.
