Us and the Lakers( I think? ) are the competition with SA to be in the Finals.

Bill Walton just said...

He thinks the Lakers and the Blazers are the two biggest threats to the Spurs to represent the West in the NBA Finals. Now I know this is Bill Walton, but wow...

I think we're definately top 5 right now, but that's a little much. Still nice to get even more respect... it's becoming a regularity. :D

Merged the two Walton topics.

Pretty cool comment by ol' Bill, but it is Walton, so you can't take it too seriously. :P

Ya, the merge function is kinda wonky.

I can see why Bill would say something like that. The Blazers team that won it all was a lot like we are now in terms of the unselfishness and teamwork, and Bill appreciates good team basketball more than anything else. He is probably channeling a lot of 1977 when he is picking us as a threat.

I think we're a good team to put a scare into pretty much anyone but San Antonio if we make it to the playoffs, but I can't see us really being able to be a real threat to San Antonio until we figure out how to give Brandon some space against Bowen and until we get some more offensive prowess in the post so that Duncan has to play man-on defense instead of being able to roam.

Boy, it's amazing how much our matchup problems against the best teams in the league are solved just by a having a healthy Greg Oden.

Sometimes Bill says some wonky things.
Its nice that he said that but its a reach.. .
Perhaps in another season or two it could be the real thing!!

Bill Walton = 8)

Man, these games are so ugly. So much one on one play. No ball movement. Quiet crowds.

The complete opposite of Blazer basketball.

Haha that would be great. Aldridge did really surprise Duncan in their first meeting this year, but not so much in the second. SA is such a far superior and respectable team that such accusations are pipe dreams. I do believe we can (not necessarily would or would be likely to) beat anyone else though.

We'll have to see how we do on this road trip

Let's hope he's right, because if the playoffs started today, guess who we'd be playing in the first round?

Let's just hope we can keep this up and get one of the top 3 records in the West. Otherwise, even if we win the division, we'll be playing either Dallas, San Antonio or the Lakers (assuming they can keep up this pace) WITHOUT home court advantage. Ouch. Quite a reward for winning the division, huh?

1976-77 Blazers were supposed to be bad too you know.... They were a great passing team with incredible chemistry who just knocked off all the giants...

Don't forget that they were the youngest team to win at the time...

I can't wait to play the Lakers to see how the two teams stack up. I think there is a great chance the Blazers can win the season series.

I don't think the Blazers match up well at all against the Spurs though...

+1

Win or lose this year, I'm excited to see these teams play. Bryant and co. figure to be a major obstacle during the front end of our championship window.[/twistedmetaphor]
