I'd love to see the Blazers bring in a low-post banger. Is there anyone available in the D-league that could do anything what so ever for this team?

The only thing that I could see was stats.

Rod Benson: 12.3 RPG/ 16.8 RP40 min
6'10", 225

Elton Brown: 10.8 RPG/ 14.1 RP40 min
6'9", 250

Does anyone know anything about Brown? Is he attached to a team, is he anygood?

As it stands I believe Brown is unattached to a team. Seattle had him a year or two ago and Brown made the most of his cup of coffee.

(I disagree with the entire premise of this thread but I'm willing to talk finer points.)

Rod Benson's blog is funny and he's out of Cal (familiarity), but I don't know how good of a player he is. He made the Nets' summer league team though.

Elton Brown article

January 16, 2008
Last season, Elton Brown was an NBADL All-Star, and lead his team to the championship game. This year, he is scoring more points and rebounding the ball better, while averaging 20 and 10, and yet he has still never received a call-up. After returning from the Pan-American Games, he joined the Charlotte Bobcats summer league team, but came in heavier than they would have liked, causing a lot of scouts to once again question his conditioning. He played himself into good enough shape to make the Los Angeles Lakers training camp roster before being cut at the last minute in favor of Coby Karl, and is now back for his second stint with the Colorado 14ers.

Elton had a strong first quarter, hitting all 3 of his shots and grabbing 5 boards, but he only took one shot in the second quarter. He did manage to get to the free throw line 6 times in the first half (converting on 5 of them) but consistent aggressive can be a problem for him, especially when teammates aren

I like Benson alot he seems like a great guy who would fit in well with this team. I would say his upside is at least as high as McBobs.

The Blazers are being pounded & outrebounded
in most of their losses. Makes sense to me to fill
in the need. The only downside to this is Frye will
lose some mins. I know some people dont agree
with this & are afraid of messing with the roster,
but the lack of intimidators on this team is costing
the Blazers wins aswell as rebounding. Heck, if I
thought it would help I would suggest bringing in
Oakley so he could hopefully rub off on the team!!

I know many think Oden will make up for this need
but you cant put that all on him, him & Joel are going
to need help and that help cant be from another draft
pick. It needs to be from someone whos been around
a bit and can show these young guys how to not back
down & to get after it on the boards. You would think
Luc & Nate would be enough but I guess it has to come
from someone that can play on the court. You can clearly
see that teams that go far into the playoffs and win titles
are have these type of role players, might as well get one.

Why not look for a trade then? Village idiot recently posted a PDX-MIN-ORL deal with Frye go to the Wolves. Most Wolves fans were for it and they see Frye as a good fit next to Jefferson. Swap Frye for Craig Smith+filler to make it work under the CBA. Smith gives us a big body who can rebound.

If the coaching staff thought that Brown could make any kind of a contribution at all, I'd be all for flat out cutting Green, and giving Brown a shot. If nothing else, he could bang on LMA and Frye in practice. And if, by some crazy reason, they think Brown could help in the games, then they have their beefy player we've been talking about.

I mean, sign him to a couple 10-day contracts, and if he's any good, sign him for the rest of the year.

he's a big body but that body doesn't translate to big rebounding. Frye rebounds at a better rate then smith, and smith can't stretch a defense like frye can with is shooting.

Most fans are against breaking up this current group because of the chemistry that they've generated, and I totally agree. However, I am really starting to like the idea of cutting Green and bringing in Brown, or someone like him.

I mean, look at loss versus gain. What do the Blazers lose, really? If the Blazers cut Green, he'd probably still be available down the road. And if Brown could show them something, it'd certainly give them a lot more options for additional deals in the off-season.

I know, I like Frye a lot. Its to bad he doesnt
have the physical game to go along with his
outside shot and decent rebounding. We need
a great guy like him but pushes people around
out on the court. Not sure we can find that guy.

i don't think a trade would be needed.

no offense on green and mcroberts, but they are expendable, so i would cut one of them to bring someone.

When you consider that Taureen Green was a triple-double threat in the d-league, I think you have to consider a d-leaguer coming in would get maybe three minutes of burn a night at best, and that's if we're blowing a team out or getting blown out ourselves. So basically, this would be a pretty pointless move at this point.

Well, that was my basic question, would there be any value to something like this? But like I said, I don't see any down side. If its a lateral move at best, it still gives the Blazers someone who's game is in the paint. At worst, it's a good practice asset.
