Cavs interested in Jack

I'd do a Miles + Jack for Snow + Devin Brown...even willing to throw in one of our 2nd rounders. Sergio would get more minutes at PG, same with Webster at SG, and I think Brown is very underrated and underutilized in Cleveland...look at what he did for the Hornets last season when Paul was injured.

And let's not forget the cap space :)

Jack to CLE

So it was recently reported that the Cavs contacted Portland about Jack's availability. Considering he has one more year left on his deal after this season and that Portland could bring over Rudy what do you think is a fair deal for him?

My first thought is something involving Devin Brown plus their pick. He could be the back up SG and his deal expires this year. The homer in me would love to add Snow for Miles, but I doubt they covet Jack that much to take on Darius for an extra year.

Any thoughts on a deal you'd like to see go down with the Cavs?

Isn't it funny how anyone other teams are interested in, we all try to include Miles in the deal.

Ok that is eerie that we pretty much have the same post, at the same time and the same trade.

Looks like I'm the Homer :)

Cavs wont trade their 1st rounder for Jack, with such a deep draft forthcoming...

The Cavs have Hughes and Big Z signed till 2010...when LBJ has his PO.
So 3 big expiring contracts during Lebron's possible last season with them...that's some nice trading material, I think.

Maybe Some of Allen's cash to ease up for absorbing Miles' contract?

I'll just respond in this thread and let the one I started on the same topic fade away. I posted in the Cavs forum to get a better feel on how they'd value Jack in a trade. The first poster mentioned that they value Devin Brown quite a bit. He did suggest a Snow for Miles swap.

I'm not sure the rest of the fan base would agree with him. I don't think Jack is worth the extra salary of taking on Miles' contract. It sounds like their owner is currently tight fisted due to the losses he experienced in the mortgage market. However, a Miles-Jack for Snow-Newble would be great for the Blazers from a financial '09 cap space plan perspective.

Well, even with Pavlovic injured for 8 weeks, the Cavs would have Jack, Hughes, Gibson and Shannon Brown at the backcourt, and Damon Jones as a 5th guard. So they dont really need Devin.

But I'm good with replacing him with Newble, though it would make our own guard rotation pretty thin...clearing capsapce and PT for the spaniards is what really matters.

Jack and McRoberts for Shannon Brown, Dwayne Jones and future 1st (2010)?

Jack and McRoberts for Shannon Brown, Dwayne Jones and futuer 1st (2010)?

Saw both threads, so I figured I'd post the trade in both, too.

If I recall right Cleveland actually has a TE from a David Wesley trade that would allow them to take Jack without sending any salary back. Not saying I'd go for that, but that could potentially open up the possibility of Jack for a pick.

Easy pass for Portland.

Honestly, I think Jack means a lot more to this teams chemistry than most of us here want to admit. I think we'd really regret it if we trade him during the season. If the Cavs want him before the deadline, they have to take Miles and give us back a contract that ends on or before the 09 summer. If the Cavs can wait until the season is over, then there might be a deal where they can get Jack without having to take on Miles... It'll depend where their 1st round pick is located though.

Cavs would add their 1st rounder for us...still not sure if both Jack and Snyder are worth it, but it does help them immediatley.

Rockets have no use for James and Snyder, they do take more salary but maybe they could use Miles in a small lineup (which would actually be bigger, since Miles is taller than Hayes and maybe eve Scola...).

We would free up a roster spot for next year, cut down from Miles' salary to James', who's kinda of a veteran version of Jack...and get another 1st rouder which we'll try to package with our own to move up in the draft. I think it's a solid deal, so we could even give a 2nd rounder or a future 1st to Houston.

I don't get why Blazers would even consider this.

Darius Miles for Kirk Snyder and Mike James. Yeah, that'll go over REAL well with Rockets fans.

I do like the basis of that deal, but Houston deserves that first-rounder more than we do.

When you're right, you're right...So are we willing to take replace Jack with James, to free some capspace? I think James also has PO for the last year on his contract, maybe Allen could pay him to exercise it...

Agree with you on this one. Jack has alot of value to this team from a chemistry perspective. I could see there being some short term regret over shipping him out. However, if the Cavs would go for it and I question whether the financial implications would be worth it, my proposal would be Jack and Miles for Newble and Snow.

The benefit to Portland is financial and future roster flexibility. Newble expires at the end of this year, which opens up a spot for Rudy. Snow expires at the end of 2009, which reduces Portland's salary commitments by another $7 million going into the 2009 FA market.

I agree with Spykes: I think Jack is held in a lot higher regard by his teammates, coaches, and GM, then he is in this and other blazer forums.

That doesn't mean he won't eventually be traded, but if Cleveland wants him now, they will have to pay with more then their un-needed scrubs.

They only have 2 players I think portland would be interested in a strait across trade....Daniel Gibson & Devin Brown. I really don't think Cleveland would entertain trading Gibson for jack, and I'm not convinced at all that portland would be interested in replacing Jack with Brown.

It would have to be something like Miles & Jack for Eric Snow and Damon Jones

Why would Blazers want Mike James and Ira Newble?
