Next years starters

After seeing Rudy's court vision and playmaking ability, I have little doubt that he can play PG at a high level. Mike Barrett said in one of his blogs that our scouts are saying this guy will come in and start right away. Do you move Roy to SF or PG? I don't think so.

Roy and Rudy's games complement each other nicely. Do you start Rudy with this lineup, or do you add him to the second unit? I like what he would bring to the first unit, IMO.

I got Blake - Green - Miles - LaFrentz - Pryzbilla as my starters. Why might you think that your starting lineup is better than mine?

It's been killing me, where the hell are you getting these pictures??

The best part of it is how the Jazz and Nuggz fans are so worried about us this year...Then they see this line up and all their hopes and dreams go down in flames.....

I'd start Roy at PG. I look at next years lineup as either having Outlaw or Fernandez starting. I think McMillan will probably try both. We definately need more scoring on this team though, Rudy is going to be SO helpful. Oden will make it easier for others to score also.

I still think this team needs another piece besides Oden and Fernandez, there's like a 85% chance in my mind that Jack will be traded for this piece.

Considering the history, I'm not sure the Barret Blog is the best source for accurate evaluation of blazer talent. Too much homerism.

That may be the line-up of the future, but euro-players are fairly notorious for needing some adjustment time. And expecting Rudy to come in and immediately hold his own against Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Deron Williams, and Tony Parker is rather unrealistic, in my view.

Next year's starter?...I don't think so

Oden will be the starter though, I'm sure. But he won't have played basketball for over 18 months. And he will still be in a bit of recovery mode from the surgery if what I've read about it is true. It's going to take him some time, and he's going to hear a lot of whistles I'd bet. Steve Javie likes to introduce himself to rookies.

And I think it's reasonable to expect a move this summer. It might even be a major one, so that SF position could be as likely as the PG position to have a new face.

I don't think they are nearly as worried about this season as they were 3 weeks ago.

Roy will be the PG if rudy starts IMO. I'm not convinced that Fernandez has SF skills just yet but see Roy as a PG already and see Fernandez as a great player alongside Roy. In this scenario, it allows the Blazers to finally trade Jack and makes Blake into the perfect backup PG when Roy's out of a game and also allows the blazers to go with a traditional backcourt lineup of Blake-Roy when needed. With Rudy in the mix, Jack's driving won't be needed and we'll become one of the better teams at penetrating to the hoop. I know many argue that Rudy is still unproven in the NBA but if he can continue to play at his current level in the NBA (which I think he can), there's no reason not to start him or at least give him significant backup minutes.

I'd like to see some sort of Jack + Frye + #13 pick for a high draft pick to use on a Bayless or Rose or the like. Or a similar package plus Raef for a top notch starter (like Jefferson or Bibby). As much as Barrett and Pritchard boast about Rudy, I'd rather he was a 6th or 7th man for next year.

Isn't that 90% of the time anyways? Taking a Euro prospect is always a risk and it's definitely too much to think of him as a Ginobili (at least just yet) but he's talented and hopefully carry that talent to the NBA.

Like who? Other than Bargnani, who was the league's second best rookie last year, there really isn't a Euro who has come in with the kind of experience/accolades that Rudy brings to the table, and Rudy won Euro player of the year over Bargnani the year Bargs was drafted.

I don't know that 'busts' is the correct term either, but generally, they have taken a season or two to adjust to the NBA.

Of course that's probably true of most college players as well.

Rudy's top level international experience will help, I'd assume. Still, I think it's expecting too much for him to show up and immediately be the starter. Maybe in 2009

I don't think we need to worry about how lines up as the "point guard" between Rudy and Brandon. Both are combo guards that can play both positions well. The only thing I think that would end up determining a difference would be who the guard on the other team. Roy - SG, Rudy - faster pg's

I think Rudy has the potential to be a starter, but at the start of the season - no.
Blake will start at the point with Rudy getting the primary backup minutes at both the 1 & 2.
Also expect to see us run allot of 3 guard lineups next year.
I do expect some kind of trade to impact our rotation next year.

Next year's roster:

Eric Gordon / Steve Blake
Brandon Roy / Rudy Fernandez
Greg Oden / Joel Przybilla
Martell Webser / James Jones
LaMarcus Aldridge / Travis Outlaw

Edit:

Forgot to add:

"Hey, Mr. Stern... could you go ahead and size up those rings, please!? THANKS!!!"

Sincerely,

The city of Portland
