Jones out 3-5 more weeks...

Post#1 » by Spykes » Tue Feb 12, 2008 2:11 am

Ugh... This is no good:

PORTLAND, Ore. - Trail Blazers forward James Jones will be out of action an additional 3-5 weeks to rest his sore left knee, Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard announced today.

"James ability to knock down the three-point shot has proven to be one of the keys to our success here in the early going," said Pritchard. "Originally, we felt holding him out through the All-Star break would be enough, but after consulting with our medical staff we feel an additional few weeks of rest is the best course of action."

Prior to being sidelined on February 4, Jones averaged 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 23.2 minutes in 34 games for Portland this season. Jones is currently second in the NBA in three-point shooting percentage at .483.

If ever there were a chance to bring Miles back in, this would be the time. I hope they do it

Can someone remind me exactly what is the nature of Jones' injury? After this rest will he be back to 100% for the foreseeable future?

One blessing is that this may eliminate his temptation to opt out and seek a larger MLE deal this offseason. We'll be able to keep him around another year at his cheap $3M price tag and then re-evaluate our roster in 2009.

My guess is the he does not opt out as bad as his knees have been this year. Just what is the exact diagnosis - is surgery an option?

As much as I don't wanna say it, I kind of agree. Even if it isn't a good time to bring Miles back, it's the best time...if that makes any sense.

I would like to see if Miles is able to play. If there were any plan to play Miles again, I would think this would be the time to try it.

I'm with you guys, now might be a good time to see if Miles has got anything left. We have a bit of a hole at backup SF with Jones out, so why not give it a shot?
