Another CHI/POR and add MEMPHIS trade

This isn't mine its Village Idiots version and I like it a lot - CHI would like it - does MEM get enough is the big key? I love it for POR as we keep TO and Webs!

Here's a deal which I think is better both for Chicago and Portland. Chicago doesn't need any more SF's like Webster or combo forwards like Outlaw.

This deal involves Memphis:

Chicago trades:

Ben Gordon
Salary: $4,881,669 Years Remaining: 1
PTS: 20.0 REB: 3.4 AST: 2.8 PER: 15.92

Chris Duhon
Salary: $3,248,000 Years Remaining: 1
PTS: 6.0 REB: 1.9 AST: 4.2 PER: 10.01

Chicago receives:

Mike Miller
Salary: $8,376,194 Years Remaining: 3
PTS: 16.9 REB: 6.6 AST: 3.6 PER: 16.04

Jarrett Jack
Salary: $1,217,400 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 9.4 REB: 2.8 AST: 3.7 PER: 12.40

The Bulls finally get a bigger SG in Mike Miller who is a solid all-around player. He also under contract. Jarrett Jack is a competent back-up combo guard.

Memphis trades:

Mike Miller
Salary: $8,376,194 Years Remaining: 3
PTS: 16.9 REB: 6.6 AST: 3.6 PER: 16.04

Brian Cardinal
Salary: $5,850,000 Years Remaining: 3
PTS: 2.8 REB: 1.9 AST: 0.6 PER: 5.87

Kyle Lowry
Salary: $1,087,680 Years Remaining: 1
PTS: 8.5 REB: 3.4 AST: 3.6 PER: 12.86

Memphis receives:

Channing Frye
Salary: $2,487,240 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 6.6 REB: 4.5 AST: 0.8 PER: 13.58

Chris Duhon
Salary: $3,248,000 Years Remaining: 1
PTS: 6.0 REB: 1.9 AST: 4.2 PER: 10.01

Raef LaFrentz
Salary: $12,440,787 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 1.9 REB: 1.7 AST: 0.2 PER: 12.04

$3 million from Portland

own 2008 round pick from Portland

The Grizzlies are looking to start from scratch. They offload their worst contract in the form of Brian Cardinal. Channing Frye is a decent young big who fits well on this team. Chris Duhon has an ending contract and LaFrentz expires next season.

Portland trades:

Channing Frye
Salary: $2,487,240 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 6.6 REB: 4.5 AST: 0.8 PER: 13.58

Jarrett Jack
Salary: $1,217,400 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 9.4 REB: 2.8 AST: 3.7 PER: 12.40

Raef LaFrentz
Salary: $12,440,787 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 1.9 REB: 1.7 AST: 0.2 PER: 12.04

$3 million to Memphis

own 2008 round pick back to Memphis

Portland receives:

Ben Gordon
Salary: $4,881,669 Years Remaining: 1
PTS: 20.0 REB: 3.4 AST: 2.8 PER: 15.92

Kyle Lowry
Salary: $1,087,680 Years Remaining: 1
PTS: 8.5 REB: 3.4 AST: 3.6 PER: 12.86

Brian Cardinal
Salary: $5,850,000 Years Remaining: 3
PTS: 2.8 REB: 1.9 AST: 0.6 PER: 5.87

but we would still have 3 point guards..lowry,blake, sergio...also I don't want to take on cap, I want to unload it..I really do not want to be in the 100 million range like we were in the trader bob days..we should look to unload miles with jack for a better contract.

This would be a plan instead of the 09 cap space...when we could forseeably sign Gordon anyways. This is just a surefire way to get him here instead of hoping.

Also, I think the original plan was to try to woo chris paul, but after the way they've been playing, I think there's only something like a 5.3% chance of him coming here nowadays...

Awesome, awesome, awesome deal. It appears to also be very fair for all sides. I would go as far as sending a 2009 lotto protected 1st round pick to Memphis.

This kills our 'cap plan', but in all reality we would be extremley lucky to get a player of Ben Gordon's caliber in the summer of 2009.

Lowry does continue the PG log-jam. But we can use one of Sergio or Kyle as trade bait to move up on draft night.

PG- Ben Gordon/Steve Blake
SG- Brandon Roy/Rudy Fernandez/James Jones
SF- Martell Webster/Travis Outlaw/James Jones
PF- LaMarcus Aldridge/????
C- Greg Oden/Joel Pryzbilla

Dradft a PF in 2008, and we have a absolutley STACKED 10 man rotation.

I don't have any objection to adding the 09 protected 1st instead of giving Memphis their pick back.

My depth-chart would have Outlaw at back-up PF and Jones as back-up SF.

Thats what I was going to say to this trade, but then thought about the Gasol trade.. I wouldnt be too surprised if the front office was for it, although Raefs contract isnt quite an expiring

maybe with a future 1st rounder involved, i think memphis does it. not entirely sure that chicago does it either.

No, I rather keep the '09 cap plan.

I dont think Ben is good enough to change the plan.

Just curious who you would propose getting with our cap space that will be better?

I don't know, memphis may need a first round pick in return to do this deal.

The Blazers can most likely do better then Ben
around the '09 season. Raef's contract will be
highly valued when its on the last year.. .I
think its smarter to use the ending contract
and the cap space in '09 then wasting it on
Ben. Hes a good player but we can do better.

Fine. Better such as??

The '09' cap plan' is anything but guaranteed. The Bulls had something like a 2001 or 2002 cap plan, and they got nothing out of it.

The chances we get a player better than Ben Gordon via. the 2009 free agent market is very, very slim.

you've noticed that too?

another thing worth noting is that 6 or 7 other teams may have substantial cap-space that summer. And it may even be more.

so...a lot of teams with a lot of cap-space competing for a small number of desirable free agents. I hope the blazers have a 'plan B'!

Here is a breakdown of the likley 2009 top free agents...

TIER 1
-Chris Paul: 99.9% chance resigned
-Raymond Felton: 90% chance resigned
-Andrew Bynum: 99.9% chance resigned, not position of need
-Deron Williams: 99.9% chance resigned
-Gilbert Arenas: 75% chance resigned, handles ball too much

TIER 2
-Mike Bibby: 50% chance resigned, old and breaking down
-Allen Iverson: 50% chance resigned, old and handles ball too much
-Marvin Williams: 90% chance resigned
-Baron Davis: 75% chance resigned
-Elton Brand: 75% chance resigned, not position of need

TIER 3
-Jason Kidd: 75% chance resigned, old as hell
-Corey Maggette: 50% chance resigned
-Lamar Odom: 25% chance resigned, law troubles
-Shawn Marion: 25% chance resigned
-Andrew Bogut: 75% chance resigned, not position of need
-David Lee: 75% chance resigned, not position of need
-Andre Miller: 25% chance resigned, old and doesnt compliment Roy
-Ron Artest: 5% chance resigned, crazy

We need to make trades that improve our team, regardless of their impact on the 'cap plan'.

Oh no doubt, nothing is without risk.

Ben isnt bad.. .

Im just wondering if we could get better.

Ya, but looking at the possibilities we are very unlikley to get a tier 1 player, and in this deal we get a guy who, in the long run, fits this team better than anyone in tier 2. Just my opinion.
