This is a story about the Knicks and how poor they have been at developing young players. At the bottom there is an interesting reference to Monty Williams.

There was a time in this franchise when that motivation came straight from the head coach. Pat Riley used to order Charlie Ward and Monty Williams to go through three hours of work per day with then-assistant Jeff Van Gundy in 1994-95. Riley gave the rookies two days off a week. "It's been tough," Williams said back then during a season in which he rarely played on the veteran-laden team. "They expect perfection 110 percent each way."

Judging from what I've heard about his work with the Blazers, it seems like these sessions rubbed off on him. Williams seems destined to be a successful head coach in this league.

I wouldn't go as far to say that's he'll be a good head coach but he's definitely become a great development coach. What he's accomplished here in portland has been amazing thus far.

I dont know if he will ever be a HC, but he is going to be one of the top assistants. I feel he is going to be the type of guy who absolutley excells at being an assistant, gets a HC job, and puts up a terrible season.

Or maby I just want to convince the other teams to not want him.
