Kirk Hinrich

Post#1 » by SinceClyde » Wed Feb 27, 2008 6:08 pm

So I was thinking if we can't get Bayless or Rose (which would be very difficult) that a good target could be Kirk Hinrich. The guy has struggled some this season, and depending on what direction Chicago is trying for, I think we have the assets to get him.

Low ball offer:

Raef, Jack for Hinrich, filler

Chicago responds with
:

Raef, Outlaw, Sergio/pick for Kirk, filler.

Kirk Hinrich is a solid defender and would look good next to Roy IMO. While he's a BYC right now, I think he should be one of KP's targets. He's older than our average(26 going on 27) and seems like he can be a leader. too.

Thoughts?

Love the low ball offer, hate to see Outlaw on the counter offer. I'll settle for Raef, Sergio and our pick for Hinrich and filler; then trade Jack and some of or 2nd round picks for a future 1st rounder.

Hinrich worries me. I am thinking there is a chance he might be a Bibby type that plays out of his mind for a couple years and then inexplicably doesn't anymore.

He is a smart player however and would seem to fit the "type" of player the Blazers are targeting.

Hinrich has likely topped out, but could probably be acquired for a reasonable price. His age is a little bit of a concern, as it will likely be 5 years before Oden is in his prime.

There is always a chance someone falls in the draft. But if not, Memphis might be a good target to acquire a young PG. They have Conley and Crittendon.

I don't think Conley is available and Crittenton is pretty much the last thing we need; a young pg. Might as well just pick up westbrook or Collison.

I think Kirk's defense would look good next to Roy, more than anything. Could he go the Bibby route? Sure, but Bibby is almost 30 while kirk just turned 27. Just saying that they are at different points of their career.

Yeah, eventual capspace, a player who is looking more and more like a core player, and motivation for Rudy to come over, is waaaay to much for Heinrich IMO.

I took it to Chicago, here are a few responses:

Raef, Jack/sergio, first pick for Kirk, Simmons

Sergio, Rudy, pick for kirk (saleries don't match-the guy was trying to make a point)

So theyre somewhat asking for fair trade in return.
However I wouldnt trade Rudy or Sergio for Kirk
mainly because I think its a good idea to keep
Sergio if Rudy is coming over. Just makes sense.

Done and done. Especially if it's Jack, though I cant see Sergio getting more minutes with Hinrich and Blake playing ahead of him...
It would have to be a 1st round pick in 2009, though. Cause Simmons cant be packaged with another player for six months now, so Chicago wont have much of a filler in draft day.

So we'll have to see first what happenes on draft day, cause this move doesn't really clear any roster spots for us.

+1.

I'd never include Outlaw in a deal for Hinrich. Kirk is a nice player, but as has been mentioned, he has likely topped out in terms of potential and he'll all but kill our cap space.

I would really have to think about Raef/Jack and a pick for Kirk.

I really like Hinrich and if he comes back to the level he played at last year it would probably be a steal, but that said we have an opportunity to pick up a very nice backcourt partner for Roy via the draft AND keep the cap plan alive.

As I see players like Mayo and even Eric Gordon to an extent, slipping down draft boards I have to wonder whether it would be a mistake to not try to pick one of them up.

Near the deadline I would have been more into the deal because we still had a shot at the playoffs, but with how we've been playing and the addition of Roy's injury it looks like we're back to the lottery and using some pieces to move up in the draft becomes more attractive than trading out and getting a player like Kirk.

A lot depends on where we end up in the draft, how easy it is to move up, and who's available where. Until I know those things I wouldn't trade our pick.

I would do the first offer, heck, I'd even throw in Martell, but not the second offer. I don't think the blazers should trade Outlaw for hinrich since kirk is such a question mark. He's definitely not worth a player that can hopefully become our starting 3 down the road at least the way he's playing lately.
I counter with:
Martell, Jack, Lafrentz, 2 08' second round picks (doesn't matter which ones, just added to entice the Bulls)

I'm not sure if that works in terms of salaries but I get the feeling that the Bulls are desperate to make a move and think they might bite on this type of offer.

If we are sitting around 13 come draft night and cant get one of Rose/Bayless/Westbrook/Gordon/Mayo, I would do this deal.

He would actually be a very nice fit. Lets not forget, he would be playing with a post threat for the 1st time in his career once he got to PTown and would likley get far more open J's.

I would prefer to do Raef/Jack/Frye/Webster for Hinrich than include the pick though. I would want to keep the pick and get Love to backup LA.

I don't want to include our 2008 pick.

Make it a top 3 protected 09 pick, the highest of our 2nds in 08, Jack and LaFrentz and I'd go for it.

I would rather give up Martell than Outlaw. I just don't think Martell's value is near as high as Outlaws. If Outlaw gets the nod as SF, then I think he becomes nearly untouchable.

The first offer was one good for the blazers. The second one was good for chicago. What's tough is finding one that both CHi and POR (at least the fans) would like.

So far, that requires a pick (2008 or 2009 I think) with Raef for CHI, and requires Outlaw not be traded for POR.

It's going to be a while before we get to really consider these trades, but I think Kirk would look good in a blazer uniform. His contract is front loaded, too

I really really like the idea of Hinrich to PDX. I think you are buying low right now with Kirk. The thing is the guy is not an All Star type PG but he's a threat to put up a triple double on any given night. He's solid and he's smart, and the best thing is Kirk Hinrich is a proven talent who would solidify our back court for the next 5 years.

I'd love to get Kirk. He's definitely in the mold of what we want next to Roy. Good defender, good ball handler (meaning he can bring the ball up the court every time), good outside shooter and does a good job working away from the ball.

I just can't imagine the Bulls would give him up without some sort of hefty return. No trade with the likes of Webster, Jack, Frye, Sergio, Blake and LaFrentz is gonna get it done. We'd have to at least have Outlaw as part of the deal and even then I'm not sure they'd do it.

^^^I think you are under valueing Raef EXP. contract. Also don't forget that with Ben Gordon and Deng needing extensions they are going to have so tough decisions to make.
