Maybe we could pull off something like LaFrentz, Miles and other considerations for Marbury. That would be a dream come true.

The big question is, What extra considerations would the Knicks want?

It would take a nice young player or our pick this season for NY to consider. NY has no need to take on the additional money unless they can get a nice player in return. Of course, Isaiah is still in NY so anything can happen....

KP was asked about his interest in Starbury's contract after the Phoenix debacle and he said there was none.

I would really doubt that KP would take us out of the market this offseason as well as next season banking on free agency in 2009. I would wait till the trade deadline next year before making this move.

I don't understand how this takes us out of the market this offseason. Miles has 2 years left and Lafrentz has 1 year left while Marbury has 1 year left on his deal. This would be about the same amount in terms or salary for next season and would simply take a year off of Miles's contract. I'd say it wouldn't really matter when this deal was made in terms of salary since the Blazers have no capspace this offseason and Marbury's contract expires in 09".

Kevin Garnett got traded for youth and an expiring contract.

Pau Gasol got traded for picks and an expiring contract.

If there is a team holding a fire sale this offseason or next season, we have no chips to play the game if we have another buyout.

Marbury wouldn't ever be on the team. We'd do something similar to what we did with Steve Francis. It would be purely a cap move.

I'll agree with CF on this one. Until the "other considerations" are defined by next to nothing this deal doesn't make a lot of sense.

Of course, I'm about the only one that thinks that cap-space in 2009 isn't going to yield much considering that nearly a third of the teams in the league could have as much, if not more, cap-space as portland.

Marbury's contract is too big to have any value as an expiring in my view. On the other hand, the Lafrentz and Miles contracts are smaller and may be more viable in a trade. And because they expire in successive seasons, portland can be a player in trade negotiations over 2 seasons, essentially expanding their window of opportunity.

The only way I see this as being an acceptable trade is later this summer after KP has exhausted the trade possibilities of lafrentz's expiring, first, as an chip in moving up in the draft, and later as an asset used to bring in a young veteran.

Then maybe this trade where the other bait is something like McRoberts and a 2nd round pick, or a future 1st round 4 or 5 years out.
