This might have already been discussed but I just read the Lakers game recap and the record backs it up:

He's not very quick, but he is very smart. I think his special ingredient is his leadership and calming effect on the team, as well as his spacing and smart D.Yangsing wrote:-= original quote snipped =-
His defense? His D never stuck out in my mind. I've seen people blow right past him. Maybe because of the gimpy knee.

Mr. Odd was right on that one at the beginning of the season he said that Jones would have a big impact. We gotta resign him! I hope he wants to stay in Portland.

That's Jones' statline. Suprising that his +/- is at 0. But yup, I think he's the reason for the 13 game winning streak and the win last night.
How many charges did he take last night?

I wouldn't liken James Jones's importance to this team anywhere near Roy's or anything but he definitely brings a lot to the table that this team wouldn't otherwise have. First and foremost, his leadership. The Blazers have needed a veteran leader for a long time now while Roy is the clear cut leader on this team, it's nice to see an experienced player come in and show some leadership skills. Secondly is the obvious, his 3 pt shooting skills. The Blazers can't hit s%$# from behind the arch without him on the floor and he clearly lifts up the rest of the team. Lastly, his defensive abilities cannot be overlooked. He's no Bruce Bowen or Ron Artest (nowhere near that level), but he fights hard on both ends of the floor and does little things that really help this team out.
