James Jones is our X-Factor. Period.

This might have already been discussed but I just read the Lakers game recap and the record backs it up:
The Blazers are 23-12 when Jones plays and 8-16 when he doesn

It's not a secret.
Most people point out his 3 pt. shooting, but I think his defense is the biggest key.

JJ = Jarrett Jack
Maybe Jones could be J3J or 3J.
Anyway, he is one of those guys that lifts the other 4 on the floor. I wouldn't mind seeing him start next year to help open up the middle for Oden.

His defense? His D never stuck out in my mind. I've seen people blow right past him. Maybe because of the gimpy knee.

He's not very quick, but he is very smart. I think his special ingredient is his leadership and calming effect on the team, as well as his spacing and smart D.Yangsing wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

Everyone gets blown by. His team D is great.

He is like Roy out there in the sense that he knows how to keep the tempo of the team at just the right spot.
At the end of the laker game, two guys challenged the crowd to get on their feet. They were both JJ's.

Mr. Odd was right on that one at the beginning of the season he said that Jones would have a big impact. We gotta resign him! I hope he wants to stay in Portland.

That's Jones' statline. Suprising that his +/- is at 0. But yup, I think he's the reason for the 13 game winning streak and the win last night.
How many charges did he take last night?

I wouldn't liken James Jones's importance to this team anywhere near Roy's or anything but he definitely brings a lot to the table that this team wouldn't otherwise have. First and foremost, his leadership. The Blazers have needed a veteran leader for a long time now while Roy is the clear cut leader on this team, it's nice to see an experienced player come in and show some leadership skills. Secondly is the obvious, his 3 pt shooting skills. The Blazers can't hit s%$# from behind the arch without him on the floor and he clearly lifts up the rest of the team. Lastly, his defensive abilities cannot be overlooked. He's no Bruce Bowen or Ron Artest (nowhere near that level), but he fights hard on both ends of the floor and does little things that really help this team out.

His D is more of a heads up crafty kind rather than a hard core lock down (Bowen) or highlight reel kind (CP3/ Kirilenko). During our streak there were a couple of late game defensive plays he made.

Jones really does need his own nickname...

I'' begining to grow into the idea of trading Webster for some proven talent at the backcourt, or moving up in the draft, and resigning Jones as our starting SF. He might not be as talented as Webster but he's reliable. How old is he again?

How about Earl?mcorrie1121 wrote:Jones really does need his own nickname...

jones shows how desperate Portland is for calming experience. His 3 shooting is important, and his ability to coach on the floor is also a plus, but his maturity and confidence are invaluable to a young, very young, team like this
the record speaks for itself
