OT: Rockets waive Gerald Green

Post#1 » by Spykes » Sat Mar 8, 2008 10:12 pm

Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed forward Mike Harris to a 10-day contract. The Rockets also waived guard/forward Gerald Green, who was acquired by Houston via trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Feb. 21, 2008.

I'd love to see Pritchard waive Wafer and give Green a shot for the rest of the season.

wow. why did they even trade for him? He doesn't seem like the type of guy you just waive. I think he's at least as good as Webster.

My only issue is, dont you think there was a reason that he couldnt play in Boston, was given away by Minny, and cut by Houston? I love the potential, but he just doesnt seem like a guy that will ever reach it. I would be more interested if he didnt have a history of being a pretty arrogant kid. If youre a star, you can get away with that i guess, but not if youre the second coming of darius miles

Yeah, he definitely has his issues and I'm not sure if he fits the culture of this team. That said, he'd be a decent pickup and definitely has a ton of potential. Not worth the risk though...

Yeah, I dont like the fact that Green didn't want to practice for us before the draft, and everything that happened him since then - slipping to #18, not getting a chance in Minnesota and Houston (last year he got his share of minutes when Pierce was down) - he's earned it.

As for why Houston traded for him, it was a salary dump move (Snyder). Same reason they were willing to trade Bonzi, just for getting Jackson for James, which means one less year on a similar contract.

Green needs to go to Europe and play ball and figure out if he really wants to be an NBA player and get his isht together. Too much ego relative to production. It wouldn't surprise me if we signed him to a minimum deal just to have him in the stall.

I'm pretty sure he can resign with the Celtics if he goes through the 30 day waiting period. However, I believe the Celtics have a full 15 man roster now that they've signed PJ Brown and Sam Cassell. So they'd have to cut someone to add him, which I don't really think they'd do.

As for being arrogant, I don't remember anything specifically like that. Do you have something that could jog my memory on that a bit?

I thought Green did work out for us? The player that didn't want to work out for us was Paul (who eventually did). IIRC, Green (more specifically, his agent) refused to work out against other players, which is what really hurt him. So you can't really blame him for slipping in the draft, that was his agents fault.

well, it would be interesting to see green as a blazer and play vs. webster in practice.

this was a "shocking" move, he showed last season that he could be a good nba player...

That's the thing, how much risk is he really? For god's sake he's been thrown off the bus by 2 teams this year, and we'd be paying him a minimum salary if we did sign him. If he doesn't want to get with the program you just cut him and move on. If he's not sensing his basketball mortality right now, then he's a lost cause anyways... The only way to find out is to have Blazers management talk to him tho.

His Bball IQ is pretty low, plus his having just 2 dimensional skills: the dunk and the 3 pointer, sometimes; not to mention his seemingly low everyday IQ which seems to be the prevailing reason for him getting walking papers at every port of call.

The Blazers don't need sqawkers which is one of the reasons why I think Frye fits into the Blazers scheme of things as in 'do what "we" need at this time'. It can change tomorrow or next year but just be ready for what we tell you to do.

I think he would be a good fit in Miami. The Heat don't have many healthy bodies these days, plus he'll get to play for a real coach in Riley.

Am I the only one who would feel much better about tradeing Webster if we sign Green? I don't think Greens B Ball IQ could be a whole lot worse than Trout's.

He'd be plaing for the Ass. Coach...Riley is headed out scouting. Can the Slick One coach a full season anymore? His last three seasons are all partials.

I don't think I could count myself in that group. I wouldn't mind adding Green as a end of bench sort of guy. But I certainly can't say I'd look forward to relying on him at all. He looked a LOT better than Martell the first two years, now Martell seems to really be getting it. I'd hate to make that swap now.

I don't know much about Gerald Green. I've only seen him in a couple of games for a couple of minutes. I imagine his biggest problems are he doesn't know how to play and he doesn't work or compete hard enough. You combine that with his complaining about playing time and teams have just said we don't want him. A rebuilding team willing to play a SG or SF prospect 15-20 per game even if he can

To quote what I learned on the Thomas Crapper this morning.

"It's like a dream come true. Never in my life did I think this would happen. I am on cloud nine." -Gerald Green on being traded to Rockets (per ESPN Mag)
