Is Houston's 19 game win streak more impressive than Portlands 17 out of 18 game win streak?
Compare the 2 streaks and tell me your thoughts.

Both streaks are somewhat similar in that both teams lost their star bigman (Portland's quite a bit sooner however) and then went on their to win those games.
As for which is more impressive, I've gotta say Houston's by quite a bit. We at least had Joel to fall back on when we lost Oden, Houston had a 40+ year old Mutombo. Not only that, they're doing it very late in the season. While putting together a long win streak is tough to do at any point, it's considerably easier early in the season.

Houston's is more impressive because of the time of season, and because they've won 19 in a row compared to portland's 13. Saying Portland won 17 out of 18 doesn't really work because Houston has also won 23 out of their last 24, and 28 out of 31. Going 28-3 in any 31 game stretch is impressive.
I was thinking that Houston's win streak had come against a lot of quality opponents. They have beaten some quality teams, but they've won 11 of the 19 against teams with losing records, and have played 13 of the 19 games at home. That's quite similar to Portland's hot streak.

Houston's by far. The only game during the streak that I can remember where we lead wire to wire and blew a team out was GS. Houston has beaten the last 9 or so teams its faced by double digits.

well... they could be even, but it would be good to analyze which teams they played vs. how much games at home, etc.

Houston's for all the reasons listed above.

Houston's, but keep in mind that they had Yao for 15(or was it 16?) of those wins. I think what makes it better is that they're still trucking even after Yao is sidelined.

Well Houston's run just keeps getting more and more impressive as it is now 20 in a row. Isn't that tied for the 2nd longest winning streak in NBA history?

Yep. 1 more and than be the sole possessors of the #2 spot.
Although, they'll have to win 13
more in a row if they want to tie #1.

Nothing is even close to 71-72 Lakers 33 game win streak.

When did Yao go down? I remember thinking at the time, "Houston's gonna drop like a lead balloon encased in cement now. This might give Portland more of a chance to slip into the playoffs!!"
I was young and foolish back then.
In any case, there's no comparison. Houston's having an historic run after underperforming for the season and then having their best player go down.

I'd easily go with the rockets. Not only did they win 20 straight in the latter part of the season which is very difficult, but they managed to rebound from a very poor start (19-19 I believe). This 20 win streak has placed them in contention for the first place in the west and hands down deserves more credit IMHO. 13 consecutive wins was incredible but Houston's winning streak just came at a more opportuned time (not to say I'm not hoping that the streak continues or anything).

I was hoping someone would take a peak at the competition to see the teams Portland beat and the teams Houston beat. Portland kept hearing that they were playing crummy teams and that's why they won so many games, but Houston doesn't seem to be playing that difficult of a schedule either, but no one is giving them crap about it. I think Portland's streak is fairly comparable to Houston's. Yeah, I know Houston won 20 in a row and Portland only did 17 out of 18, but they're fairly comparable.
