D.J. Augustine...
Hey guys haven't been on here a lot lately due to being down in Austin Texas for work right now..I still read on here every night though so don't think I'm gone for good..
One thing I've seen down here is D.J. Augustine..This guy is the real deal and is the sole reason for the success of U of T this year..Kevin Durant got so much love last year for what he did but from what I've seen from Augustine is he makes this team better then they were last year..
Just curious why people on here don't seem to be as interested in picking him up with our pick as much as the other PG's in this draft..?

The reason nobody is talking about Augustin, is that nobody has seen him play....wait until after the big dance, then start talking when you have some solid facts. The tournament always [almost] shows who is for real or pretending

I haven't seen Augustine this year, but I absolutely hated him last year. He flat out sucked. His decision making when he had a guy like Durant to shoot resembled Jarrett Jack's decision making with Aldridge, Roy, Jones and Outlaw on the court with him--take the shot himself and get stuffed by the defense. If his basketball IQ has improved enough I would consider him because he clearly has the athleticism, but he really, really turned me off when he refused to pass to Durant when he was open so often last year.

This is pretty true. The times I saw him in person last year he was pretty average, but he seems to have improved.
Augustin is only 5-11 and will probably measure out shorter, so he has a lot to answer to and will be around when we pick...I can almost guarantee that.

I like DJ for this team and has been impressed of the way how he can carry his team,he has the poise and a good bbIQ....I also like the combo of roy and dj together they both can run a team and they can shoot...The problem with DJ though is his height, but overall i like how he plays and can help this team.

He will be a good backup PG in the NBA. His
talent isnt good enough to make up for his
size. Small players can no doubt play in
the NBA & some can even be great but
DJs talent isnt big enough to overcome.
Then again you never know.. .but in my
opinion I dont see him being more then
a backup or a starter on a bad team.. .

I'd say BBall IQ is a strength and athleticism is probably his biggest weakness. Since you are a mod I won't call you an idiot, I'll just focus on the bolded part and advise you to turn on a Texas game.

by the way Texas is playing Kansas on ESPN at noon pacific time. Big time game that should give the winner a #1 seed. Should be a good opportunity see DJ.
I think Augustin would be a pretty good fit for the Blazers. He is a very effective shooter/scorer that can play the role of a SG at the end of the game when Roy is handling the ball. Yet unlike Mayo or Bayless he is still a true PG who can handle PG duties for the majority of the game, especially when Roy is on the bench. Plus with two longhorns the Blazers would become my #2 team after the Rockets.
The downside of Augustin on the Blazers is that I don't think he'll be a great defender at the NBA level. He will give plenty of effort, but his lack of size, strength, and elite athleticism is going to give him trouble guarding big, strong PGs like Baron Davis. Because of Roy, the Blazers may not necessarily need a great floor general at PG, and likewise the team already has several other players who project as big time scorers, so I could understand why you might want to focus on a Devin Harris type of guy whose #1 attribute is defense. From that perspective you might rather have a guy like Russel Westbrook.

He's been my favorite ever since the Texas A&M game, in which he absolutely tore his opponents' defense apart. I've watched about 3.5 games of his this year, and have come away impressed every time.
Last season, he was reduced to just handing the ball to Durant on every possession, but with more opportunity to run the Texas offense, he's flourished this year. BBIQ is no longer a weakness as his decision making and ability to discern defenses has become top notch. Although his height might be a weakness defensively, his quickness compensates for any deficiencies. His slashing ability, court vision, and leadership will inevitably shine in the Tournament. I'd be very glad, albeit surprised if he drops to 13.

I'm happy to see fellow Blazer fans starting to give Augusti n some love..The guy is phenominal all around and the Texas offense runs great through him..I see a lot of people knocking his size but he seems to play a lot bigger on the court then his 6" frame indicates..
Ever since I posted this thread around aweek and a half ago I've seen a lot of you thinking more about how he would mesh with the offense and I think the NCAA tourney is showing you all some flashes of what he is capable of......

???? Durant shot the ball 19 times a game last year and DJ shot it 10 times a game and DJ averaged 7 assists per game.
Maybe you are mixing him up with A.J. Abrams? Or maybe even Boobie Gibson from the year before the year before when he used to ice LMA all the time? (I would SCREAM at the TV when he'd pull up on during a 2 on 1 and take a 3 ball even thought LMA was quicker than all the guards on the court and be under the rim by himself)

Agreed. Rose's size really seems to be bothering him. Granted, Rose does that to a lot of people, but its not going to get any easier in the NBA for Augustin.

Let me help....
Smallish PG
Smallish? There is no "ish" about it, he is FLAT OUT SMALL!! He has the SAME body as Damon Stoudamire. I'd rather not go down that path again unless it was for someone extremely good. DJ is not that.
who can seriously shoot it
Since when does 37% in COLLEGE three translate to someone who "can seriously shoot it?" I think you are vastly overrating his shooting. Actually, it's more of a fact than a thought of mine.
and is lightning quick.
So was Sebastian Telfair. Decision making, outside shooting, ball handling ect ect are all variables that affect the effectiveness of the guards quickness.
