Bruce Bowen doesn't like the reputation he has garnered as a dirty player in the NBA, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

"When people think of me, all they think about is, 'He's dirty,'" Bowen said on Saturday night. "You don't ever want to be looked at as a player like that."

LMFAO he acts like he did nothing to earn that title.

bluntly, bowen is considered a dirty player because he absolutely is. There are just too many incidents where he sticks his foot under a jump shooter before they come down. IMO, it's deliberate and dangerous.

I think the phrase I'm thinking of begins "if the shoe fits...."

If he's not a dirty player, then everything I've ever known is wrong. Bruce Bowen definitely gets away with some pretty bad stuff on defense and seems to give the spurs an unfair advantage at times. Now I'll be the first person to say that Bowen's the best perimeter defender in the NBA but he has a way of repeatedly crossing the line.

Truth be told, Bowen really is only considered dirty because the league is so wussy now. He's not even half as dirty as Danny Ainge was.

Ya, but I'll take a little wussy. All I keep picturing is someone like Bowen sliding under Oden or "falling" into his knee and sending him to the sideline for another year, or worse... :noway:

That's why I liked the old days. As Lucas once said (if you believe someone's sig), it used to only be a $50 fine for fighting. If there was only a $50 fine for fighting, no one would mess with Oden.

Personally, even though I know the players association would never agree to it, I wish that there was a way to penalize players like Bowen that have taken players out on purpose.

Basically my thought would be, if a player purposely tries to injure someone outside of the confines of what would normally be considered a flagarant IE: poking a leg under them when they shoot, trying to up end them purposely, or flat out throwing a punch and landing--that player should be suspended for the entire time said player is out because of that injury + a suspension for the act itself to be served on top of that.

Obviously there is a HUGE gray area that neither the league nor the players association would want in a big rule. If player A throws a punch and hits, but doesn't hurt player B, and player B lands a punch that sends player A into the next millennium, does player B get suspended for the length of time player A is out even though he didn't initiate the action? Obviously that has only happened once, but you never know.

To me though, I think more stiff penalties should be required for guys like Bowen that have a history. I think it's incredibly unfair for a guy to be able to get away with injuring a player and still being able to come back and play while the injured player is still trying to recover.

Maybe it's too much like an eye for an eye. But for repeat offenders I think it's the best way.
