When I was looking at his current pics, I noticed that he has considerably added weight. His face is much rounder than during Media Day 2007, and he looks like a monster in the March 2008 pics.
No offense, but I think this doesn't look like muscles he has added. So what's up with that?

He was dunking in practice the other day without a problem. He was just cleared to start running again around a month or so ago but he hasn't been allowed to go at full speed yet. When a guy cant get any cardio in, I think a little weight (fat) gain should be expected. With his strong work ethic I fully expect him to be in or near playing shape by the time next season starts.

On media day 2007, Oden was almost 20lbs below his normal weight due to tonsilitis. Looking at him now, though, it doesn't look like his face is much rounder, nor does it look like he's carrying his weight as fat:

Plus, we have the video of him working out in the pool without a shirt from about two months ago and you could tell he wasn't carrying a lot of fat at that point, and I would be shocked if at this point, where he is cleared to do light running and on-court stuff, that he has worsened from that point. He's probably not in full game shape, but it's not like he's turned into Big Baby.

he's just turned 20 and his body is maturing. He's just starting to get back to full cardio-vascular exercise. However, reports here are that his body fat ratio hasn't changed which would indicate that the weight he's gained is mostly muscle mass.
Keep in mind, his body type will be a lot more like a young Shaq, then an aging Garnett

I agree with the argument that his body is maturing but also his diet consists of of like 5 packages of hotdogs a week. Didn't he grab that many hotdogs in the supermarket video and said, "I'll finish these in a week" and put them in the cart. But I don't think he'll have trouble losing some of that weight. The trainers want him down to 280 lbs.

It's too early to be discussing his weight when he isn't going to play until next season starts. I'm sure Portland is keeping tabs on their investment.
No one really knows what to expect from him. He's had various injury problems for quite some time. Hopefully he returns, plays well and stays healthy, but of course no one knows how it will work out.

Oden is definitely not fat. GO MAY have built up a bit of fat but it's nothing serious and it appears that he'll be returning next season stronger than he was coming into the NBA. Sorry for ruining your fantasies about the Celtics killing the Blazers next season but Oden is even more of a monster now and will Own you guys next season!

At this point in his recovery the fact that he can jump enough to dunk the basketball I'm jumping for joy. Who cares if he's packing on the pounds? He's still got the athletic ability and any fat weight he's gained he'll lose long before next season.
