Joel Przybilla = Chris Kaman ?

Hi Blazer fans.

What a game tonight by Przybilla. Can he put up numbers like consistently that in case Oden isn't fully healthy next year ? I'd love for my Knicks to have him instead of Eddy Curry :nonono:

Thank you.
Patrick.

Well, he just did put up those numbers tonight when Oden isn't fully healthy, so yeah. ;)

As for your comparison to Chris Kaman, don't expect Kaman-like stats from Przybilla. Most of Joel's points tonight came off putbacks and after he was left open due to mostly Brandon and LaMarcus drawing double teams, he's not really an offensive threat if he has to create for himself. He can definitely give you a lot of boards and a couple of blocks though.

+1

Oden has been out all year, so Joel's numbers this year would be a pretty good representation of what he would do. I would definitely take him over Curry if Zach is my PF. As far as Joel being a scorer, look at his FT mechanics. Do you really want him doing anything with the ball offensively?

Yeah, he's one of the best defensive centers in the league, imo, but he's definately not much of a threat offensively. He will give you tons of hustle, great screens, and offensive rebounding though. Plus he doesn't force any shots, which is really nice.

In short, Joel is the ideal role player, he knows what his job is out there and he doesn't force anything he can't do.

Honestly, I value Joel a lot, and I think the only player I would trade him for on the Knicks would be David Lee

I definitely agree that he's nowhere near Kaman offensively but he's much better than Kaman defensively IMO and fairly even in terms of rebounding. I think many nba fans and blazers fans realize how special it'll be to have both Oden and Przybilla on this team next year; they'll definitely make one of the best center rotations in the NBA (arguably the best) and will deny opponents the luxury of easy layups all game long. PatrickJNYC, I send my sincerest condolences to you for having to deal with Isaiah Thomas and his no-defense frontcourt, it must be tough to deal with. :banghead: I could see Joel fitting in NY very well but that said, he's in Portland to stay. I don't think there are many offers that can convince most of us blazer fans to give up on the opportunity of having a LA-Oden-Joel front line.

It's going to be so great to not have to try and shuffle in Frye or attempt to move LMA to center now. Our starting center is going to be our back-up center next year what with Oden. I don't think anyone's offense is going to get that big of a breather while Oden's out of the game. :)

I really hope Portland holds onto Joel. His contract isn't bad and it's clear he can be a a vital cog in Portland's lineup if Oden isn't ready or Oden has foul trouble.

I would say his averages speak for themselves. But I would also say that if he was getting 30+ mpg regularly he'd be a double digit rebounder.

With that logic, Shaq should not be allowed near the ball

Oden + Joel= A younger more defensive version Zo and Shaq when Miami was winning.

Yeah, but Shaq is coordinated, has good hands, can dunk 5 times while Joel is gathering himself for his 1st jump, and can bench press the Blazers team bus with the whole team in it. Well, maybe not anymore but he could in his prime.

I take back my original statement. I'd definitely trade Przybilla for that but there is a lot that I don't think it would make much sense for Portland to trade Przybilla for but this trade would clearly be worth it. Unfortunately, that's why NY would say no, and it's looking like Isaiah may be fired so we can't rely on his mistakes anymore. :D

Good for Joel. Every time I watch him I root for him to do well. I'm a Nate fan, but maybe he could have started putting Joel in games during the fourth quarter earlier?

Not Nate Hate, but it was never a question of what Joel could do when in the game. Glad to see him get his minutes and deliver.

EDIT: Joel is a really cheap seven-foot defensive center. Trading him would have to be done strongly considering that.

Pryzbilla is more like Dampier because they both have the ability, but don't to it concistantly (and in Dampier's case, not enough MPG).

Przybilla is nothing like Dampier, regardless of Dampier's inconsistencies.

I'd love for Joel to be Chris Kaman, but Kaman's much better offensively. And again...I don't think we trade Joel to the Knicks, especially not with Oden coming in next year.

Pryzbilla 3.10 fouls per game to Dampier's 3.30
Pryzbilla 1.16 TO per game to Dampier's 1.18
Pryzbilla EEF +11.59 to Dampier's +12.77
Pryzbilla PER 12.45 to Dampier's 15.38

And the rest is here:

I live in Portland and my hometown is Dallas. I see both of their games equally and I can definatly say that they have the same struggles, same highs, same lows, etc. They are pretty much the same type of player, except 4 yr age difference, race and the fact that Dampier sets much better picks.

I also watch both Portland and Dallas games. I agree, Przbilla = Dampier.

Although at a much lower salary. Most of the derision of Dampier is really related to his salary. If he was making MLE money, fans would hold him in much higher regard.

Joel is an excellent option to back up Oden. Rebounding and defense are his game and that is what is needed with this young team, not to mention the toughness he brings.......who else have we seen on this team get up in an opponents face...nobody!

When did Joel take a 3?
