Summer League Team

Post#1 » by DaVoiceMaster » Fri Mar 28, 2008 7:20 pm

So who the heck will be on our summer league team besides Sergio and whoever we draft? I can't imagine Roy, Aldridge or even Oden will play on it and aren't Webster and Outlaw to "veteranized" to play on it again? We might have a team full of non-Blazers playing in it this year.

Von Wafer, summer league MVP.

Josh McRoberts, then a bunch of random scrubs I guess.

Oden definitely won't be there.

As for Webster and Outlaw, I think they can play in it if they want. I remember either last summer or the summer before that, Ron Artest played in Summer League for the Kings. However, I don't expect either Webser or Outlaw to play. It really wouldn't help them in any appreciable way, outside of giving them more playing time in game situations.

McRoberts will be there. Whoever we draft this summer will be there. Freeland and Koponen should be there. Then there's Rudy and Sergio who might be there if they don't have prior arrangements with their national team.

I haven't seen Kopponen play at all, so I think it would be cool to have him over. Freeland and even Sinanovic could show up, too. Rudy's busy if I remember correctly, but I don't think Sergio is.

Koponen played with our SL team last summer.

How many years have we owned the rights to Sinanovic?

I think summer league rules limit elegible players to those that have been in the NBA 3 years or less.

I don't think there is a limit if artest played.

Is Ha still in the U.S? We need to get both Ha and Sinanovic in to battle it out in a jousting match part II

Could you imagine if we brought HA back for the summer league? I would be down in Vegas for that in a heartbeat

There's no limit. Bo Outlaw played in it every year.

Didn't Diop play last year for dallas? I don't believe there's any actual rule based on nba experience to who you have on the summer league team.

This was published late Friday evening (Finnish time) in the webpage of Finnish tabloid magazine Ilta-Sanomat:

Petteri Koponen and Honka Playboys head coach Mihailo Pavicevic will both arrive to Portland in May. Reportedly the duo will arrive early just to make sure Koponen is ready to go when the summer league tips off.

I'd says that's just a little early alright. Maybe Petteri's planning on bagging a few pick up games with Oden at 24 Hour Fitness to get acclimated.

Will be interesting to see if he's actually made any progress or not...

The National Basketball Association Summer League (also called the Vegas Summer League to differentiate it from the other pro summer leagues) is a basketball league run by the NBA in the United States just following the NBA Draft. Teams consist of players who have been in the league for 3 years or less as well as newly drafted talent.

it's wickpeida so if it's factual or not, or if it's a new rule, I don't know.

Wow. I only caught one game last summer, but I don't remember him at all.

Sorry Petteri.

he did, so the 3 year rule probably doesn't exist.

I do remember talk last season about players being eligible because they exceeded too many total minutes during the regular season. I seem to remember that Roy was 'eligible' because he didn't have more then the limit on minutes, but Jack was not elegible because he played too many minutes.

I'm guessing there's no hard fast rule though.

unless its just been implemented recently the 3 year rule mentioned isnt true. There have been quite a few players past that playing in summer league action the past couple years.

Doesn't Portland have the rights to like 8 former second round picks? We could fill the team with them alone.
