This works much better in a spreadsheet but with all the banter about the need for a veteran PG - I thought I'd make sure we're not overlooking someone, and otherwise develop a list of possibilities. Below are some of the top PGs, statistically speaking - with anyone over 32 years of age eliminated (probably not worth talking about Kidd at this point)

My second cut, at whittling the list is the below names which I have seen most frequently discussed on this board all have 1 year remaining with the exception of Hinrich. We might have two chances at the 1 year contract remaining. You can argue about how real even this list is, it gets small very quickly!

Calderon, Harris, and Hinrich are the only decent options that are at least semi-realistic IMO. Probably just Hinrich even.

I think Nelson could be great for us, he combines playmaking skills, an outside shot and good D. We might be able to get him for less than he's worth, something that revoles around Blake, Jack and Frye. The only problem is that he's got PPP status on his contract.

Yeah the only guys that we have more than a 1% chance at (Paul, Williams) that I would like to see are Harris or Calderon. I doubt NJ moves Harris unfortunately, and we'll see with Calderon. Hinrich used to intrest me, but he really seems to have taken a step back. he doesnt attck the rim at all like he used to

I don't think the Blazers need a star here. A smaller, "moneyball"-style acquisition would work just fine. While it would certainly be nice, we don't really need a star distributor. Somebody who's respectable on defense, who can penetrate a little and hit open shots. Also somebody who doesn't dominate the ball or try to do too much. Getting a Baron Davis or a Gilbert Arenas wouldn't be a good move IMO.

A few that look like good options: Hinrich, Daniels, Watson, Gibson, Milller, Duhon

Devin Harris would be ideal, but he's almost as unrealistic as Paul or Williams.

Somebody like Stoudamire, Fisher, or Cassell could help a lot. I'd even take a (skeptical) look at guys like Claxton, Alston, and Tinsley. I don't know. Short of getting some kind of star, Steve Blake is actually a pretty good option.

I agree and thats my problem with the vetern PG move. Other than Harris and Calderon, theres nobody who fits what we need. I dont see a good chance of us getting one of them, but what KP wants, KP usually gets. So hopefully he can get Calderon this summer, but if not, I think we need to draft the best PG that we can and let Blake hold down the fort until hes ready.

But on that note, with the arrival of Harris in NJ, we might be able to snatch up Marcus Williams somehow. He had been reported to have character issues coming out of college, but I have yet to hear of him being a malcontent or having off court issues since arriving to the NBA. Would he be worth it? He seemed like a pretty damn good understudy to Kidd.

I think we can add Banks to this list. He's a quick and strong defender, can shoot 3's at a high percentage, and he's a slasher. A bit turnover prone, but still way better than Jack.

Personally I think we throw everyone &
everything (outside of Roy, LMA, Oden)
into getting a good PG. We need to aim
higher then run-of-the-mill players.. .
But, again.. .easier said then done.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Blazers take a chance on a guy like Shawn Livingston. He'll be a RFA this summer, but I'm not sure if the Clips are intent on keeping him. If we can sign him to a reasonable contract, he could be a low risk/high reward kind of player.

I think Livingston could a great fit as a backup PG who can guard SG's while Rudy guards the PG...but I have a problem with him not playing at all this season, maybe we'll go after him in 2009 once he's proven himself to be healthy (Clippers would almost certainly resign him for the QO)

I would be ecstatic if we could get Livingston. S&T to get him for Jack and our 09 1st. If he were able to somehow come back from that injury, our team would be set for a long time

I hate to say it, but Livingston's career is effectively over at this point. He tore every single piece of connective tissue in his knee. I would call it a miracle if he were able to recover and be half as good as he used to be. If I was gonna gamble on a guy who has question marks as to his durability I would go for TJ Ford.

I think Ford would be perfect. I see that as an opportunity to buy low and maybe pick up a final type peice.

Hinrich is way, way better than blake.

None of those players listed are a Nate McMillan PG.. Kirk maybe. I would make a serious run at Antonio Daniels and Livingston.

I think NJ could be persuaded to give up Harris. Our 13 pick, plus Sergio or Jack, plus Martell, I bet that gets it done. Might depend on how Martell plays without Roy.

Interesting. They seem like they think pretty highly of Jack. If we gave up #13, Jack and Sergio + whatever filler (preferably not Martell or Travis) they might bite, but I think they like Harris so who knows?

I don't think the Nets will even consider giving up Harris. Their claiming they've got their new Big 3. He's really done a good job for them. It's possible, but the Blazers would have to give up more then Jack and and misc. pieces.
