2nd Tier PG's in the draft

Obviously we'd all love to get Rose. Bayless may be out, which probably means Mayo's not available. Gordon's not really a PG. What does that leave?

I have watch Darren Collison several times this year, but I've never seen Augustine play.

I really like Collison's defense and perimeter shooting. He may never be Terry Porter from the outside, but I've seen him hit big 3's with guards right in his face when it really mattered.

If the Blazers were to add to the PG LOG-JAM, I'd really want a player who could get to the rim at will and light up the assists category.

As a final note, while these guys are little, Chris Paul is 6', 175 lbs.

But they're not just short, they're weak. Westbrook or Hudson sound more intriguing to me.

When I think of Collison though, I think of a gritty little pest. He's not Baron Davis, but I think he'd be ok.

We got Roy for guarding Davis, Collison or one of the spaniards could take Ellis.
Question is, how good will he be against the likes of Paul and Parker?

I don't think anyone on the Blazers roster could guard players like Paul or Parker as well as Collison. He'd probably do really well against Monta Ellis (as well as anyone anyways).

My biggest question about Collison is how is he at penetrating and dishing to someone under the hoop, or kicking it out to open shooters?

I've been pretty impressed with Augustin from what I've seen of him. The only thing I don't like about him is his height, but at 180lb, I think he's probably strong enough to help compensate for his size. I'm curious to see his numbers out of the Orlando pre-draft camp.

As I said in a previous thread though, Augustin does everything I'd want out of our future PG. He's a solid scorer, a good playmaker, he can run the break effectively and just overall seems like a good fit.

Collison, I'm not so impressed with. I'd like to see the Blazers with someone who has a little better true PG skills. It's the same reason why I've become less and less interested in Ben Gordon.

This is one of the reasons why I really like Augustin. He CAN do that very well.

Not to go too much off of Draft Express but here are his listed Strengths:

I dont know how reliable the sources were, but I heard somebody say that Sergio, Rudy, #13 and a 2nd rounder have a "good possibility" of being traded for Rose on draft day. That doesn't sound completely unrealistic if Fernandez truly would have been a top 5 pick this year.

Cant see any team moving down 11-12 spots in the draft for two euros, one of them untested and not a lock to arrive in the NBA next year (especially if he's traded before even coming to the US), and the other has shown only flashes, but not just of his pluses.
Not to mention it means giving up on a possible top-3 PG prospect for the next decade.

I'd be absolutely stunned (and ecstatic) to see that deal go down. Like Telfaire said, I can't image any team dropping down that far and trading away a near-can't-miss prospect like Rose.

Also, with the lottery a little less than 2 months away, we don't even know who might own one of those top picks.

The only team I can even remotely picture considering a trade like that is Memphis. They'd have a nice trio of Spanish players with Navarro, Sergio and Rudy. Plus they have Marc Gasol likely coming over. But unless the Grizzlies are trying to recreate the Spanish national team, I still can't realistically see them making the trade.

Grizzlies trying to recreate the spanish national team? too bad they traded the best spanish player for next to nothing...

Augustin is going to be a star. I've watched him play a lot. He's a PG ion the turest sense

Collison has potential lockdown defender type player, but his Pg and shooting skills are questionalbe

well, i for the first time saw both augustine and rose play and i liked what i saw.

on augustine i liked his intesity on defense, he also seems like a very fast-flashy player.

on rose, well, he had interesting moves, some very good passes and a very good ball control to both make the pass and move the ball around and to penetrate, create his own shot and for the others.

what i don't know about both is if they aren't too short.

Like I said, i don't know how reliable the source was, so I'm definitely not saying its going to happen or even that there is any truth to it at all. Its just a rumor I heard. that said, I keep hearing that Rudy would have gone in the top 5 if he came out this year, so it would be more like going down 1-4 spots PLUS getting #13 and Sergio. If you look at it like that it doesn't seem quite as unrealistic.

Rose is listed at 6'3" and Augustin is listed at 5'11".

I'm not sold on Augustin at all, but for a "2nd tier" PG he intrigues me. I could see him being a blazer...

A have a feeling his stock is going to vary wildely before the draft.

After taking a close look at his stats, he is remarkably similar to Damon Stoudamire while still in college. From what i've seen of him he is better at setting up sets than Damon was though. Looking forward to checking out the next Tejas game.

If we cant get a Rose, Mayo or Bayless
I dont think we waste the pick on any
other PG, because I think all the rest
are backup PGs in the NBA. Westbrook
could prove me wrong but im not sure.

I rather trade the pick & player(s) for
a proven NBA player even if its not a
PG. Hopefully Pritchard can pull off a
trade to get a good PG but thats kind
of doubtful. I just dont believe getting
another young guy is the way to go
unless its a top pick player.. .

LOL, all Rose will have to do is post up or shoot over the top of DJ.
