Whining about Webster, more anecdotal BS

I love Martell Webster, I'm confident that he'll keep developing and be an important part of our future championship teams.

But I thought last night's loss to the Bobcats did a good job of once again stating that drafting Webster was a horrible mistake. We've whined a lot about drafting Webster over Paul and Deron Williams. But last night Raymond Felton made drafting Webster look extra stupid.

Webster hit one shot. That's right. One shot. Felton hit 8 of the 13 he shot and made the Blazer guards look silly. He'd look pretty damn good in the backcourt with Roy.

Dont let that game fool you.. Felton isnt anything special. He had a good game, but its not like those are near his averages for the year

Webster is a shooter and he would suffer such nights from time to time. But hopefully, gaining extra confidence and playing with Oden would make them as rare as possible.

Webster is going to be pretty good. Keep in mind that he could still be a junior in college right now.

+ 1. Felton isn't near the level of Deron and Paul and he hasn't proven anything in the NBA yet. Felton had a good game but he's too inconsistent to be considered a top PG in the NBA. I'd say he and Webster are both disappointments in the NBA thus far and even if the Blazers would have drafted Felton, we'd still be having the Chris paul conversation.

Seriously look at Chris Paul's numbers this season and try not to cry. I hope, no pray that Martell blows up :)

Fail.

But then think about Oden, and it's all better.

Most teams in the league can look back at past drafts and say they would have drafted differently.

Rarely can a team say they drafted perfectly two years in a row. It looks like the Blazers pulled it off...

Would you trade Oden, LaMarcus & Roy for Chris Paul? No.

We really don't know where we'd be right now if we took someone else. Right now we're not in a bad spot. I would doubt the Hornets are going to win it all as Boston seems to be a tough match up for them(or anyone). The west is deep. I think we'll be up & coming right around the time some of the teams start to wind down(Nash getting older, Duncan older, Shaq gone, Kobe older, Boston past it's peak). Hornet's could be a contender then as well and maybe we'll have a rivalry with them. So I don't think I would ask for anything different, though I like Chris Paul on my fantasy team :)!

All the Chris talk wouldnt be that big
if Roy was moved over to the PG spot.

Not saying Roy is close to Chris as a PG.

That's why I started the thread. We're not looking for a super-duper star at the 1 right now. Felton is a good defender and the shooter/slasher that would be ideal next to Roy. I'd happily trade Webster / Outlaw / Jack / Blake / Frye and future considerations for him.

Damn Straight.

I have a good life. I've had a lot of great moments. But NOTHING I've done compares to the moment when my friend called me and told me we had the 1st pick in the 2007 draft

If my grandkids ever ask me what my best memories are I'll tell them about that summer of 2007. Hearing about the lottery on my way back from Lake Tahoe with their Grandmother. The legendary "Hold your shorts" thread that kept me up at nights wondering what would happen. The .15 minutes of fame where my friend's "Welcome to the Garden of Oden" phrase ended up in half the papers in the country thanks to ANNE M. PETERSON.

My only regret is that in my pre-draft excitement I drank too much and never met up with TBPUP and the rest of the REALGM group. Hopefully the 2008 draft will be interesting and I can rectify that mistake.

The main issue that I have is that the Blazers passed up on Paul when he looked like the best player in the draft at the time. On draft day 06', I was hoping that the Blazers management (of the time) could once, just once, have enough brains to take the player that could pay the most dividends (CP), but knew they'd find a way to screw up that draft. :banghead: KP's success does not take away my distaste for the stupidity of John Nash and the Blazers management at the time. KP's been incredible as the GM, but I think you still have to question why management didn't draft Chris Paul at a time that they didn't know that things would fold out perfectly the next two years. The Trader Bob and John Nash eras marked nothing but stupidity and embarrassment for the TrailBlazers franchise and while it's easy to say that the Blazers wouldn't have gotten Oden, Roy, and LA had they drafted Paul, it's hard to question the stupidity of trading our opportunity to draft CP by trading for MARTELL WEBSTER and JARRET JACK.

I am absolutely dumbfounded at the amount of people who think the string of luck to get Brandon, Lamarcus, and Greg makes the Paul passup a good decision. Sure we happened to become very luck to acquire the assets and be in the position we're in. But face it, to this point in time Martell is absolutely nothing above average, and while you can attribute that to his age, the kid just isn't mature enough to understand what it takes to be a star. Meanwhile CP3 has a strong case for league MVP.

We got a lucky with a genius GM. There is absolutely no correlation in the string of events that is passing up Chris Paul to acquiring Roy, LMA, and Oden.

On a side note, in my honest and wholehearted opinion, if we could just throw Martell in a gym with Kobe for a week, that would be so beneficial. Is there anyone out there who could teach Martell and Travis ways to score when the jumpshot isn't falling? Honestly. I think that'd be a great move.

Absolutely no correlation? Well, figure we get Paul, and we are too good to get the 4th pick in the draft to get Aldridge and make the trade for Roy. Also, the following, year, we certainly would not be bad enough to get Oden, so there is direct correlation.

As for Martell, didn't he work out with Kobe over the summer? I thought I heard that, but I could be wrong.

I don't even worry about this sort of thing. CP3 is probably the best PG in the game right now, but the delta between him and the next best is smaller than will be the gap between Oden and the next best center before too long. And while CP3 would look great in a Blazer jersey, Oden looks much, much better to me.

As you probably know, KP was campaigning for Paul (if my memory serves me right).

Oh yes my bad.

And if we had traded Z-bo for Lebron James, and we had the Spurs starters as our bench, and Malcolm X had invested in strawberry Jello we could of won a championship the last 3 years.

I don't know if I'd trade martell for felton, either. Only reason i would is we need a pg, but I don't even think felton solves that too much.

Here's the thing with Martell; with Oden in, his efficiency will go up more than most expect.
