Quick on Daron Williams

Post#1 » by PhilDaAgony77 » Sat Jun 28, 2008 12:49 am

Quick was just interviewed on The FAN and said that if the Jazz don't sign Daron Williams to a long term contract soon after July 1, that the Blazers (using Allen's deep pockets and some league loopholes) will be preparred to put together "a plan of attack" to get Williams into a Blazer uniform. I'm sure that I'm not alone in saying that the Blazers would be sick adding Willams to the rotation! :D
Eh....I need help saving my soul because I've done some stuff in my life I ain't proud of, and the stuff I am proud of.....is disgusting. - Moe

Chances = slim to none(closer to none), but WOW, that would be an ultimate fantasy team. I don't see Utah trading him to a division rival unless it's an ultimatum from Williams and I doubt Williams would play for a QO when he has a max offer on the table. Sounds like a pretty huge IF from Quick and it's pretty obvious that every team would be angling for him.

Jazz will get him signed. They would be stupid not to make that their first priority.

That being said I would love to know which loop holes they're talking about using. Tom Penn is really a genius.

"League Loopholes" huh...

We'll see. I'm not ready to get excited about this yet.

Does he mean July 1st of next year because this year he's up for extension and is not a free agent of any kind.

Jason Quick is at it again...

It would be nice but I don't think Utah would do something so careless. This would ruin their franchise.

Are you sure? I think they can look to lock him up with a longterm extension this summer.

I could be wrong on that though...

Regardless, I agree with Dakotah here. The Jazz already have to figure out what they're going to do with Boozer next season if/when he opts out, if they lose Williams, that would arguably set their franchise back a decade.

Quick is full of crap again. Williams is without a doubt a max contract player, which means the soonest Williams can become an UFA is 2010/11. Blazers will not have any cap space that year. In 2009, the year the Blazers do have cap space, Williams is a RFA and as such, the only way he can leave Utah is if the Jazz want to let him go. That is less likely than the Blazers just letting Roy go. The hole Quick is referring to is the empty space between his ears.

I used the QUICKREPLY button for this.

I think this is a QUICKRUMOR that will be wrong.

Too bad though, that would be pretty damn awesome.

Jazz have already come out and said that they are prepared to sign D-Will to a MAX contract when he becomes eligible

.. that's what I said. Does Quick mean July 1st of 2009 (of next year) because this year (this summer) he's (only) up for extension (like all 2005 draft players) and is not a free agent of any kind (which leads us back to my question of does Quick mean July 1st of 2009).

I am sure I'm alone on this, but I think Bayless could turn into as good of a player as Williams.

There has been much talk that Boozer will opt out and run for Miami and more $$. He hasnt shown any loyalty with any team he has been with and the altitude in SLC messes with his daughters health condition.

So if UT loses Boozer they will have,

Williams
Brewer
AK
Milsap
Okur

and little bench as with Milsap moving to the starting lineup, they lose all depth, so I do not think that it is unfathomable for Dwill to leave, but I wouldn't put anything past KP, TP, and PA. That is the more brains and $$ than the entire rest of the league combined. They have worked magic in just 3 years and we may be instore for more.

That said, I really like Bayless and he is gonna be a ton cheaper. We just need to sit on this roster, let it grow together, and let the championships start rolling in.
