Re: Draft Thread - Kings move up to #4
I think the keys to Davion being able to fit as a starter next to Fox and Sabonis are reliable 3 point shooting and providing offensive value off the ball. Davion thrived to end last season when he was the primary ball handler, and he won't (and shouldn't) get that role with the starters. If he can't be effective off the ball including as a shooter, I think he's got to be the primary ball handler off the bench.

I'm not worried about the D at all.
I can't say I'm as confident as you are defensively. Id say this is definitely an improved team defensively. People focus too much on rim protection, don't get me wrong its still important. But IMO the current NBA is far more perimeter oriented, focus on stopping guys at the point of attack and defending the 3. Teams shoot 40 3's a game. Hopefully Mitchell will help in that aspect, having Murray/Barnes as two switchable forwards should help as well.
I'm just hoping for steady improvement. If this team is middle of the pack next year that will be a massive improvement to the Walton era.
Thisnis an absolute key right here that everyone completely ignores.
In todays game it’s not about being a paint protector team defensively. It’s about keeping that opponent fg% as low as possible because it means they are missing their threes.
The Dubs are once again the prime example. They were one of the top two defensive teams in the league. And their best shot blocker is Looney. Meanwhile they beat Boston by shutting down their perimeter ability despite Boston having Williams as a middle anchor in the paint.

Not sure how Mitchell react to this, imo.
If Mitchell can develop a 3PT shot that hovers in the high 30s%, that would build the case for him to start next to Fox. We will see if Mitchell can improve in this offseason. Dude is a gym rat. I expect him to be better in his sophomore year. I think we will see more of the Fox & Mitchell backcourt.
