BAE

Post#1 » by The Beam King » Mon Jul 4, 2022 4:48 am

Who do the Kings target to sign using the BAE? Who would be a likely best fit signed for this exception?

I'll start a couple....Kessler Edwards, Carson Edwards, Caleb Martin.

Realistic?

Would like to see a defensive minded swingman or a 3rd ball handler behind Fox and Mitchell.

Any others you'd add to the list and do you have a fave?

Roster as of July 4th:

PG: Fox, Mitchell, Ellis(2way)
SG: Monk, Huerter, Davis
SF: Barnes, (Vezensko? with rest if MLE)
PF: Murray, Lyles, Metu
C: Sabonis, Holmes, Len, Queta(2way)

Leaves us with 2-3 players max to round out the roster

I think this really depends on what Monte has going on and if something more happens, re trades.
A decent sizes trade could open a hole in the roster where an experienced FA that misses out on a deal can help out down the end of the bench.

I think Josh Okogie could make sense. Said it on reddit, but he's a defensive wing who plays bigger than his size and has a mike brown connection with the Nigeria team.

I'm betting Sasha is coming.

Then we probably need a vet point guard to fill out the roster with the last spot. Fox has been banged up the last few years augustine would be a good target on a 1 year deal.

Can Bo Cruz play sf lol. I'd be okay with signing him if Sasha doesn't come. Would just be a fun player to have this season.

Sasha is definitely coming over. Things would need to go horribly wrong for him not to.
Are you saying the Kings won't use the BAE on a guy like Augustine and it's just a min? I think it needs to be the 2 years for it to be BAE, could be wrong though.

That's definitely the way it needs to go though if this is the roster, grab a 3rd PG as insurance for Fox.

Okogie went to the suns. Caleb Martin would be nice.

I'm definitely not giving Augustine more than a minimum deal. 2 year vet minimum if that's what they have to do, but that's basically my max on a guy like that.

Ya I think for stretches you could get by with Monk at the point guard as long as he's paired with Sabonis. But I see no reason not to grab a 3rd pg for insurance. If Fox missed 5-10 games, then that guy can slot in for 10-12mpg.

I also think the Kings need a 3rd PG for insurance. DJ Augustin would be a decent pick up for it.

If the target is a 3rd PG, which I think is good, I would prefer to go with min salary. AND for that PG to have decent size.
If there was a wing available that made sense that is the way I would go with the BAE, but I don't see it yet. Maybe better to wait and use it next season, unless Monte is planning on having cap space, which I would highly doubt.

EDIT: Such as Michael Carter-Williams if he has recovered from his ankle injury.

Any summer league guys that stand out we can take a chance on?

Personally, I would prefer the 3rd stringer to be a vet TBH. Someone that knows the league and if injuries hit you can put them in a game and know they would be able to do the job.
I hope they're still looking for young guys at SL, but for the Stockton team.

The Kings need to start using Stockton as a feeder club and run everything the same, or close to it. The NBA coach should be the one deciding who the coach is for the G League team so they're on the same page. Start developing players to play roles.

MCW has good size but he is a horrid shooter.

I wouldn't mind MCW if the Kings can get him for cheap but I would seek out DJ first.
