For a regular trade, I can only see the Lakers offering a fitting package for us. Unless the Knicks put Lee up off the floor, and, Isiah's actually being secretive about not doing any deals.
But I don't know if we'd actually do a deal with the Lakers. I would, for a package around Crittenton.
Then, of course, the Lakers have to take on Kenny Thomas' contract. As do the Knicks, assuming Lee's on the table.

What if something like this happened (and I can't believe I'm even thinking this would be possible)?
We trade:
Mike Bibby
Ron Artest
Kenny Thomas
We receive:
Kwame Brown
Javaris Crittenton
Trevor Ariza
Lamar Odom
Basically...its Ron Artest + KT for LO
then Bibby for Brown + Crittenton + Ariza
We rebuild, get two young players in Crittenton and Ariza, and get cap space from Brown expiring this year. Maybe Lakers throw in a future 1st?
I would HATE to see Bibby and Artest on the Lakers but...
Bibby
Kobe
Artest
KT
Bynum
Looks pretty good for them and...
Beno
Martin
Salmons
Odom
Miller
With KT gone, Critt to back up Beno as our future PG...doesn't look too bad? Then we draft a PF with our 7-13 pick.

No we're not. That's a limited perspective.
You can't just put San Antonio, Dallas, Boston, Detroit, and possibly New Orleans a level below the Lakers out of a sudden.
If anything, the Lakers move up to their level with that trade. Being put into the title contending group of teams. But still with that, are not above any of those teams (except for New Orleans), because of the lack of establishment. As even with Bynum and Ariza before, they weren't/aren't an "elite" team. They were/are a top team in the league and conference, a darkhorse title contender.
Before they can be elite, they have to establish themselves over the playoffs and next season, to be put into the elite catergory, with or without that proposed deal. Obviously getting Bibby/Artest would only help that more, but still, there has to be the previously mentioned proving.
That's how we did it back earlier this decade, how Dallas has done it, how San Antonio did it, how Phoenix did it, how Miami did it, how Portland did it, etc.
You don't just become an elite team, and favorite or top three favorite team for the title, in a matter of months or in the middle of a season. Typically.
Phoenix, Golden State, and Denver I think they're definitely better than, though. Which I think they are without that trade (with Bynum/Ariza), too. I think they would have the edge over all of them in a playoff series, being significantly balanced and more built for the playoffs than all of them.
The Playoffs don't care about your Analytics
