It's not that easy and no that's not what's going on here. Rather it's called focusing on the greater cause, the FRANCHISE. When Ron is gone next year or the year after, us letting Ron jack up 30 shots a game gets us two things, jack and ****. Ron doesn't need the development, others do. If there is no shot at the postseason I see no reason that some others don't get a chance to play. We have some really good young talent a couple of which being recent lotto picks. I would lean more towards them being in the long term picture than the current squad of starters and major minute guys.

It's not about winning and losing. If you have no shot at the playoffs then it's the equivalent of preseason, nothing more.

So you're assuming that the Kings won't try to extend him this summer and have no interest in keeping him around long-term. And what exactly do you base this assumption on? I think there is a better than average chance that the Kings will look to keep him around for the next 6 years. If he's going to be around, he will look to be the leader of this team. I frankly don't see anything wrong with him getting as much time on the floor as necessary to help him develop as a the leader the team needs for the future.

As for the "young guys", they are going to earn time on the floor by working hard in practice and making the best out to the limited minutes they do get. Spencer's minutes have slowly increased over the course of the season by working hard and learning. That effort has paid off to the point where he has a fairly consistent place in the rotation with an average of 10-15 min. per game. Williams needs to pay his due, but he will get his shot if he makes the most out practice time and his time on the floor. Guys don't deserve to play just because they are young and theoretically have promising talent. They earn their time through hard work...simple as that. Unfortunately for Williams, there is not a lot of time left in the season for him to earn time through practice...he may need to have patience and start planning now for his offseason conditioning (get a jump start on next season).

The fact that Ron was dangled for any package that didn't overtly look like a total boning value wise.

No amount of "hard work" or practice is going to get a rookie coach to play his rookies over his vets unless there is a significant shift in direction OK'd by his superiors. With a month left in the season, a good portion of that better belong to the ones that haven't gotten a shot yet. There is no good, legit reason as to why they shouldn't. Vacation time is headed here quick, might as well let the vets soak up the disappointing season that was and give the fans some gleam of hope for the future.

I wasn't responding to you about that :D
We're still in the twilight zone, we thought of competing and things didn't go too well, you said it yourself, given the current roster, Theus isn't gonna sit the vets and play the young, he did it once and had everyone puzzled.

Bit of an exaggeration. Petrie listened to offers and probably put out some feelers of his own after Ron gave the impression that he would opt out and bolt this summer. But as soon as it became apparent that other teams were not willing to give fair value, Petrie basically took Artest off the active market (a move that impressed Artest). If Petrie thinks Artest can be a part of this team's future and Ron's agent tells him to stay in Sacramento, then the 2 sides will make a deal this summer...simple as that.

Well that gleam of hope for THIS fan is having a coach and team playing to win every game. This is the NBA, not the D-League...to hell with "playing young guys to develop them". Reggie needs to push his guys to win every game and he needs to use those players that will give him the best opportunity to win. I spent enough time in the 80s and early 90s watching terrible Kings teams go through the motions for lottery picks and development. All that gets you is yet another year of losing. That Kings era is over and "losing for the sake of development" is no longer acceptable.

Well, maybe Artest is starting to help the cause. Dude is dogging it right now, Indy style.
