I have to say that was the best game thread I have seen in my 2 years here at RealGM.
Kobe was shooting crap the first 40 minutes of the game and he couldn't hold KMart at all. Martin was moving without the ball and backdooring (no jokes please) all game. Kobe is susceptible to not paying attention to his man and can lose him a lot. Worst part of his defense.
Artest was killing Odom. Hard to believe how a 6'7 guy can dominate a 6'10 but he did. But Ron making all those circus shots in the 1st half I think was a bad thing. It made him think he was Kobe and started launching.
I can't wait until Artest leaves and the Kings can put more of the offense around KMart.......

Yeah. I was pissed because the game wasn't on TV and so my roomie (the Lakers fan) and I had to listen to it on the radio.
Accursed luck, we stayed on with a fantastic (ow, that hurts to say) Lakers team but when we gave up the lead we paniced. Maybe it's just my natural dislike of people who overvalue themselves, but suddenly the offense stopped moving like it was, which was definetly the biggest problem sense there was no way we could stop the Lakers from scoring down the strech. I agree with Creul Rain, bllaaaack hooole.

Odom>>>Artest and he proved it yesterday. Odom outplayed Artest, and shut him down when it mattered the most. If anything, you need to say that Odom was killing Artest. He matched his scoring pretty much on way less touches & shots, had more rebounds, assists, etc. Before you go praising Artest, check the stats and look at the scoreboard. At the end of the half, Artest had 13/3/1 and Odom had 10/8/2, give me the 10/8/2 any day of the week. At the end of the day, the overall stats speaks for themself. Odom won the matchup.

Except many Laker fans would be willing to trade Artest for Odom straight up...

Maybe through my beer goggles I saw something different. I saw Pau Gasol beating us up throughout the game. Yes the Kings down the stretch either were shooting with the clock winding down or rushing shots (Ron included but not exclusive), but to be honest the Kings panicked. Up 7 with 5 minutes to go at home and you are rushing crap...no poise did us in. I blame Beno just as much as I do anyone else for that.
The bottom line though Gasol was a beast, and the difference in the game. He kept the game close enough to where Kobe could finish.
Probably
What I saw was a distinct lack of execution of the offense, which all began when Ron Artest decided his isolation plays were more important than the whole team concept.

We had a shot clock violation and several shots that were taken were with time running down on the clock. Beno rushed two shots and drive to the lane once with plenty of time left and didn't convert. Martin wasn't open. Several times the ball went into the post, and came out. The problem is Artest can post some of the time, but he can't post all game against guys that are taller than him (something I've been saying). The play calls were for Ron. It was clear we were going through Ron. He didn't produce, but what the Kings were trying to do was clear. Ron Artest wasn't just jacking up random crap. The coach call called those plays and it didn't work.
I hate to break it to you guys but Kobe is just that good. He wasn't even playing that hard until it mattered and shut out Martin while scoring on Artest. Had the Kings used more patience and ran plays through Miller instead of exclusively running ISO maybe there would have been a different result, but the Lakers played good defense down the stretch. The Kings as a team played scared and Reggie got out choached. It was so bad there's more to blame than Ron Artest.
