Houston/Portland/Sacramento trade

It's not so much that Thompson is slow but I know Spencer Hawes has to play center
which means Thompson has to play PF. He'd better be fast to matchup with the
really quick PF's in the Western Conference. Most of the draft pundits thought
there were better players left on the board for he was still raw defensively after
playing four years in college and was the biggest reach in the first round.

I'm not here to criticize for I hope he works out for you guys for I've got some
friends who live near Sacramento. I just think you guys should have nabbed
Rush at 12 who was the BPA or someone like JJ Hickson who might be really
good in a couple of years.

Should be no slower than the Portland frontline. Kind of similar in fact. Two 6'11"/7' guys up front.

I don't know about Thompson being slow, buy if this gives you any indication at Lebron James' camp nobody would step to gaurd Lebron so Jason did. And by all accounts he did a very good job. The way it sounds the Kings think he may even be able to play a little bit at the 3.

On paper Thompson/Hawes has the chance to be a great frontline for our style of offense. Kevin Martin will work very, very well off those two. Plus both Hawes and Thompson can step all the way out the 3 point line, as well play inside. I don't think any other team in the league can do that from the PF/C position while also maintaining that type of size.

Portland has 7'0 285 lb Greg Oden who runs like a gazelle to play center while you
guys have Spencer Hawes. We've got LaMarcus Aldridge who's got good offensive
skills averaging 16/10 in his second year and guys like Outlaw and Frye while you
guys drafted an offensive project from a lower league. I might have tried to trade
down a couple spots and drafted Hickson for there were a number of teams that
wanted Rush like the Phoenix Suns who were picking 15.

Be that as that may, I keep reading all of the threads concerning Sacramento's
glaring need for a PG. Portland basically gave up little to move up to 11 to get
Bayless and you guys could have done the same. My sole interest in all of this
was the original 3 way trade with Houston that would net us Battier and there
was a Sac poster that was screaming that Portland stole your guy. I do think
Portland owes you guys something and you could probably offer us something
like a #2 pick for Sergio Rodriguez who's going to be stuck on our bench to
fill your needs for a PG. What that guy needs is some consistent playing time
he would not get from us.

I'm not ever going to do a deal with Portland, unless Oden gets a career ending career. God I should have chosen Reed for college, then I could actually be a Portland fan.

Eh, 0.3 seconds faster than Hawes on the 3/4 sprint ain't that much. And we'll see how "gazelle" like he is after microfracture. I'm sure he'll be OK no matter what though.

And Aldridge does have very good offensive skills. A lot like Hawes, fairly weak rebounder, very talented offensively and can block shots too.

The more i read and see about JT the more i like the pick.
He isnt slow at all, his speed was actually one of the features of his game down low.

Uhh we'll see if Oden runs faster than nascar after microfracture. Even Amare isn't the athlete he was before and he's arguably made the best recovery from it. Oden's also been away from competitive basketball for a whole year.

Thompson is really athletic, he's fluid(not a stiff basically), he's got long arms, he was recruited by UCLA and Villanova also but he went with his hometown team because it was close to his support system/he was already signed to Rider by the time UCLA etc. recruited him(he said this on the radio earlier today). Then you say he's an offensive project, what the hell? You said he was slow originally and that's obviously not true, now you say he's an offensive project? He has a great jumpshot, he had to bring the ball up at times on his college team so he can handle the ball, he can score in the post, and he has a nice face up game. He rebounds out of his area also. It's pretty obvious you know nothing about the guy so maybe you should quit before you continue to put your foot in your mouth?(I actually watched him play the couple times he was on ESPN/ESPN2/FSN etc.).

You have to take into consideration fit too. Thompson fits with us and what we want to do infinitely better than Hickson would have--infinitely.
