Artest tendencies

Post#1 » by DraftBoy10 » Mon Aug 4, 2008 8:20 pm

Rockets fan here curious as to some background info on Artest that the average, casual Kings fans wouldn't see.

For my Rockets, I know McGrady lights up it in Milwaukee for whatever reason. I know Francis use to play superb against Utah & Los Angeles.

What's some notables about Ron Ron, like which team, which players does he do exceptionally well against?

Ironically enough, I always thought that Ron played some of his best ball against Houston. Other than that it pretty much varied. It depends largely on how the other team decides to play him as a whole because there isn't one player in the league that match up with him physically.

Indeed, against us he did really, really well. Especially passing wise. As did McGrady ...it was pretty much 1 on 1

Yeah, like mitch said, it varies. But Artest plays well against Houston (Obviously), Knicks (For some reason, he likes to dominate them), Suns (Well, he averaged like 30 PPG against them IIRC. There was a clip in youtube that he was bringing the Kings back, even though they were blown out LOL. Still, you have to admire Artest's determination to win in any scenario.) And he plays well against mismatches, like PFs. The Boozers, Chandlers, Wallaces, and etc.. And smaller SFs. Basically any opponent smaller than Artest.

artest either will be a perfect fit for the rockets, or a total flop. One of his most eveident tendenices is that he often times tries to do too much offensively, by normally trying to just power down his defenfder, which can often times create a score on smaller defenders, but when matched up with a more experienced player will often create a turnover. He is a good player who unfortunately thinks he is better than he is so he will sometimes try to play the hero and throw up hopeless 3's and take up the ball and sometimes lose it. so if he can put these things aside and learn to pass to his better offensive teammates, in mcgrady and yao, which it sounds like he really wants to do, he will accent your team in an incredible way. best wishes for you rockets and for ron-ron. :peace:

Tendency? Uh, how about dribble, dribble, dribble.....uh, dribble some more, fadeaway jumper from 18 feet. Haha.

Seriously though, he does pretty well against anyone who dribbles the ball into him. He has some of the best hand eye coordination and anticipation I have ever seen.

He has a hard time with players that move around screens and that a quicker than him. He can dominate a guy like Paul Pierce one on one but struggles defending a guy like Josh Howard.

Not really. If anything, Ron's harmful tendency is to just go straight into the teeth of the defense and force up a shot. Fortunately, he's very good at those kind of shots, but when they don't go in, it's pretty ugly.

Well, honestly though, I think the one thing I would worry about if I were Houston is that he's not good at being created for. You won't see him catch and shoot, he's just not very good at that, and rather takes shots off the dribble. It remains to be seen if that's going to be a problem.

QTF

Ron's problem is he tries to create off the dribble too much. It's not that he holds the ball and dribbles. But the rare game where his stop and pop game is on fire....he can go for 35 easily. I think we need to look more at the Ron when Adelman was here because he didn't spend nearly as much time with the ball in his hands as he did when Mussellman was the coach.
