Well, this is my post in the Gen. Forum regarding about Martin. (Even though, it is kinda out of context because I was arguing against another poster but still significant regarding about this issue):

Well, yeah. He won't average 33 points per game. But time and time again, he is still a super efficient guard. He will find a way to score more and maintain efficiency. But you made an inaccurate statement: " defense will collapse on him now that he's the main guy." Are you inferring that defense hasn't collapse on him yet? No, your wrong. He is facing the best defenses in the league since 1 yr and half. Bowen, Battier, Prince, Howard, AK47 and etc. I still can't believe people (not directing to you, ToffBosh...well a little)are doubting Martin for 3 years. That just amuses me. He is proven to be an All Star-guard talent.

Let's put this in perspective, in the last 20 games of the season, here are Martin's averages:

26.2/4.0/2.1/1.2 Shooting at 49.1% FG @ 14.9 shot attempts and 42% 3s And averaging 11.2 FTs per game @ 88%

This is the last 20 games, when games are tight and intense, especially the west playoffs race. So, he is still effective and efficient while facing tough defenses.

I'm not saying that he will average 50% FG for the whole season but he will shoot at respectable %s and maintaining significant efficiency though. Even though, the mention averages, that he averaged was like 25% of the season.

Here are other posts that is significant about Martin:

NetsForce wrote:Kevin Martin's numbers in 15 games without Ron Artest last season:

Code: Select all

| FG%  | 3PT% | FT%  | MPG   | RPG  | APG  | TOV  | SPG  | BPG  | PF   | PPG  |
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| 0.48 | 0.42 | 0.89 | 37.93 | 4.33 | 1.93 | 2.27 | 1.53 | 0.20 | 2.20 | 28.7 |
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He posted those numbers against fairly competent teams as well...

- Against Portland
- At Golden State
- At Denver
- At Memphis
- Against Minnesota
- Against Dallas
- Against Indiana
- At Phoenix
- At Utah
- Against Minnesota
- Against Cleveland
- Against Seattle
- At Dallas
- At San Antonio
- At New Orleans

...Although the Kings only recorded a record of 5-10 during that span.

Kevin Martin is going to be a player to keep an eye on next year, he has good endurance and Sacramento doesn't exactly have a lot of quality depth, so Martin should be playing big minutes on a team without many legitimate scoring options.

One other thing to note though was that during those 15 games without Artest, Martin averaged 12.2 free throw attempts per game, given his relatively thin body and need to add more upper body strength it's hard to see Martin keeping that up for a whole 82 game season...

kingsfan10 wrote:Thanks for the info NetsForce. Yeah, the only thing I see is a concern is that 5-10 record. But when Artest missed the first 7 games of the season due to a suspension. The Kings were w/o him and a legit PG. We have to start Orien Greene. And we had a rookie coach in Theus and we were still learning his gameplan. We were 2-5 for the first 7 games. And that record was at times w/o Artest and Miller and Udrih. So, technically, it isn't really Artest was out for the 15 games, there were player(s) as well were missing.

Yeah, that 12.2 FTs attempts are superstar level. I don't think that he will maintain that IMO. But he did averaged 9.5 FTs attempts for the season though. And was #1 FTs made per game. He will probably averaged like 10 FTs per game.

Yeah, stature is a bit in the light side. But I think it is ideal for him. Even though, he did put 15 pounds of muscle last offseason. He was probably 200 lbs last season. Even though, they list him 185 lbs. That is like Rip/Allen range stature IMO. But yeah, he needs a little bit more muscle to keep up that high FTs attempts (12).

Read the stats again.

Deng averages more rebounds, more assists, and less turnovers. Other than scoring IMO (which means IN MY OPINION) Martin isn't the greatest of basketball players. If you are going to make a comparison at least try to include other facts about the player and bring up their strengths instead of trying to discredit them.

I probably should've elaborated more but I didn't mean raw stats but accumulated stats, it's not fair to compare stats across teams and across position and for that reason there are stats to do that like PER, TS% and eFG, and in these stats Martin superior.

ICMTM wrote:The last time Deng was in the post season he elevated his game to 22.2 points per and 8.7 rebounds. IMO (again it means IN MY OPINION) when Martin starts seeing better defensive players on him his trips to the line will go down, and so will his shooting percentages. I don't think Martin can raise his game when there is more on the line than a regular season game. That's my knock on him, and it always has been. Deng has proven otherwise.

Heck I'm going to pull out the "this is what happened when Chris Webber came back from injury" argument. The Kings have not had a winning record with Martin as a starter. See what happens when you use stupid logic to prove a point? So if we are going to continue this Deng/Martin discussion recognize two things:

1. There isn't a right answer
2. Don't over exaggerate a point to try to make one

I like Deng as a player more than I do Martin. Deng is more rounded and more versatile. That's my opinion. If you don't like it you can express your displeasure but don't discredit yourself in the process.

We can go through this again because you're just reiterating.
If Martin is questionable as a lead scorer, Deng is more questionable, there are simply too many other things in Martin's arsenal that Deng probably will never get.
Is Martin a first option, I think it has been said by me and a lot of guys that Martin isn't a 1st option, but neither is Deng.
As for me using "stupid logic" and "discrediting myself", I'll let it pass, I'm really not in the mood for another childish jab fest, but don't mind me, you suit yourself.
