Francisco Garcia's role with the team
Who will get the starting nod? Salmons or Garcia? Projected numbers? Will it be anything like his last month's numbers from last season?

Re: Francisco Garcia's role with the team
Salmons will start, Garcia will come off the bench behind either Salmons/Martin...I suspect he'll get at least 25 minutes a game in a 6th man capacity.

Re: Francisco Garcia's role with the team
It will be Salmons. Salmons will start. If Salmons start, we will see a similar numbers when he started for us last year. 17/5/4 or something like that.
Garcia is suited to be the six man role. Not saying he sucks but his game is an ideal for that. Think of a Bobby Jackson of swingman (I think Smills said that) type of player. I actually agree with his assessment. He can provide instant offense. Great player to have..especially for contenders..

Am I the only one that don't see Fransisco in the Kings long-term plan?

Cisco can be a great utility guy in the 6th or 7th man role. He shoots the "3", defends, rebounds, blocks shots and can be a PG when the Kings go "big".
Salmons will start and looks like the "go to" guy in the half court offense, taking his man off the dribble, slashing to the hoop and kicking the ball out if the defense is stacked up.

I see the Kings re-signing him. Probably to an amount that may seem like too much, but in reality is a pretty fair deal. Depending on his role of course. Now if they let him become a restricted FA, or an unrestricted at some point, things could get hairy. I see multiple teams being interested in him if it comes to that.

Re: Francisco Garcia's role with the team
I think we will re-sign him for the FULL MLE IMO...Or if not, a little a bit more than the MLE...Which I'm totally fine. Even though, he didn't met my initial expectations (Being a Prince-caliber player) he will be viewed like a perennial six-man candidate IMO..Which is fine. I see him as a James Posey/Stephen Jackson type of player. Which is fine...

As a Suns fan, I hope you are right. I would love to see him in a Suns uniform.

Re: Francisco Garcia's role with the team
is this a contract year for Cisco?
The thing I can't seem to get past is that for the last few months of the season, his stats made him a top 30 guy in the NBA. Of course, Kevin MArtin was out, but even then, Salmons' numbers weren't as good as Cisco's. Do you think Cisco will put up better numbers than Salmons? or at least anything close to what he did at the end of the season:
12.5 ppg, 1.5 3s, 3 boards, 1+ steals, 50% FG?

Top 30 player? His last month stats were (April...9 games):
16.8/3.1/2.8/2.2/0.8
50.5% FG
36.7% 3s
87% FTs
Well, it is good stats and he showing promise and a constant improving rate. But I don't see TOP 30 player level. BUT the surprising part is that he started TWO games out of those NINE games of April. Like I said he is well suited for the six man role.
Well, again, early in the season. When we had Salmons start. He put up great stats for us...He was basically our best player for the early part of the season. (Well, when Martin/Artest were out of course) At one point he average close to 20/5/5 with ALL NBA defense for us. Well, if Garcia starts for us, I can see numbers close to April's or so.
Anyways, this last season was Garcia's best season so far...It was largely due to coach Theus. If you didn't know, Theus was Garcia's coach in college. Theus wanted to make Garcia into a point-forward thus making his production better than year's past. Theus played Garcia more effectively and etc...
So again, it is more likely that Salmons will be the starting SF for the Kings..And Garcia the six man for the Kings. But again, we can see it vice-versa...Who knows...But I doubt it. Well, it doesn't means Garcia's production will decline but I can say his production will increase next year due to the trade of Artest...Both Salmons/Garcia will have the most minutes ever before with the Kings...

Salmons will probably start but personally i hope donte greene gets a lot of mins at the three next to kevin. So it should be a good battle for minutes between those three. That said douby will strugle to get any PT.

Re: Francisco Garcia's role with the team
I think that Francisco is excellent trade bait for a team with excess post-oriented big men who do not have big perimeter-oriented players on their roster. It is very possible that he will be moved either alone or with Miller or other contracts that expire in 2010 to make room for Donte Green who is looking to be a very similar type of player but 2-3" taller with the potential to be a lot bigger.

Re: Francisco Garcia's role with the team
I'd much rather keep Garcia and trade Salmons.
1. Salmons is going to have very, very good value on that bargain contract.
2. Salmons' deal goes beyond 2010
3. Garcia is much more suitable in different roles (starting, coming off the bench) than Salmons, who is mediocre as a sixth man.

Re: Francisco Garcia's role with the team
To be fair, assuming we re-sign Cisco, his contract will also go past 2010. But still, valid points.

Hey mitch! I was about to mention that! Jerk...

But yeah, those are valid points but ALOT of people tend to forget that Salmons was a TOP 5 back up PG last year (In the first year in Sacramento). People were raving about Salmons...There was even a comparison thread about that and Salmons made the list(Top back up PGs)...
