Salmons should get more than Lafrentz and a Glorified 2nd round pick.
Trading Miller/KT for Marion and Banks doesn't make sense to me. I would rather just do Moore/Miller for Marion.

Hey there is some pretty stiff competition this year, that pick might even be better than the Rockets one. And even if we didn't get it this year we could always package that pick along with the Rockets one to move up in the draft. Plus we'd be saving so much money that maybe we will be a team buying a 1st rounder or two this year! You can't underrate dumping salary with him either.

Re: 2 HUGE KINGS TRADES MAY GO DOWN VERY SOON LIKELY TRUE !
How is any 2nd rounder worth more then a 1st?
My main concern is if we're focusing on getting salary cap NOW, who in the world could we want in FA this year?
And Banks has 3 years above 12 mil for pretty much worthless. I mean, Miami couldn't use him.

Why does having salary NOW mean we have to sign someone this year?
That is exactly the attitude that left GSW w/ Maggette for the next century.
Having salary space...
-Options for signings
-Options for teams looking to dump players (ie Camby)
-Options for teams w/ unhappy stars
-Options for helping a team get under the cap (ie Kurt Thomas)
As of now, we need as many options as we can possibly get.
Dumping Miller/Salmons also would likely mean we have a worse record this year, allowing us to get a better pick.

It's not a completely meritless thought. There's a reason some teams sell their 1st rounders. It's because late picks often amount to nothing, and relieving one's team of a 1st rounders salary plus getting another $3million will often amount to saving around $8million for a player that teams don't look at as a big part of the future, as opposed to an early second rounder. An early second rounder on the other hand is barely lower, and is much cheaper.
I don't think that's really the case here though, as Portland is currently slotted for the #22 pick I believe.

This actually quite true, but I think that the 2nd rounder has to have a distinct value in terms of the actual player it represents.

All this banter is very nice.
What we all need to realize here is that at this point of the season doing ANYTHING is better than sitting and watching a young AND undertalented team mail it in. At least these moves give us some optimism and a new set of options in a year that is a lock for the top 5 in the draft. I really don't care at this point whether we spend the capspace next year or not, but I want to see these good for nothing vets who are teaching the youngsters the new version of "the Tizzy rules" shipped the hell out of town on a rail. Let's face it, Brad is talented, but not turn it on when he wants to talented. Same goes for Salmons. Martin is the ONLY guy here who is anywhere near that kind of talent right now and the rest have great potential if they don't get taught how to be losers first.
As I have said elsewhere, I am not a big fan of Marion as a supposed "all-star", but I DO think that he could potentially teach both Spencer and Jason some really good things about NBA post play - especially defensively agianst bigger players. The rest is just allowing the Maloofs some savings in an otherwise terrible attendance year as well so that they are more willing to spend in 2010 and 2011 when there are worthwhile free agaents and the team is coming back up.

No, I'd say it depends on the 1st rounder. The value changes over when a 1st rounder is essentially considered negative value because teams seeing it as costing them money for a player they won't use. A 2nd rounder can cost practically nothing if you want it to.

What if the Suns offer you Leandro Barbosa for John Salmon.

barbosa doesn't even do the things John Salmons does as well. Why downgrade our player and get the same contract situation for a player that plays our deepest position.

If you didn't get Kleiza + expiring for Artest, you sure as hell won't be getting Kleiza, expiring, and Bobcats (lotto) 1st

This link says that a deal has been talked about involving the Kings, Blazers, and..............the Bobcats. Most likely pur speculation but there is a PG on the BCats that I would like on this team..

Re: 2 HUGE KINGS TRADES MAY GO DOWN VERY SOON LIKELY TRUE !
I would really like to get Bayless from Portland maybe something like:
Salmons
Moore
Douby
Hou 1st
for
LaFrentz
Bayless
Take out the expirings and its Salmons and Hou 1st for Bayless. I think that is a good trade off for both teams as the Kings dont need Bayless to start right away and Blazers are poised to make their run next year.

Re: 2 HUGE KINGS TRADES MAY GO DOWN VERY SOON LIKELY TRUE !
Thats something I would actually be fine with. I understand fans may want more value in return, but they have to understant the the Maloofs are losing a lot of money right now, and this also would free up money to go after free agents in the summer or be able to take on salary to get a superstar in a trade.mitchweber wrote:What about just shuffling things in the two trades around?
Salmons and Kenny for LaFrentz (/Randolph) and a heavily protected 1st, then Moore and Miller for Marion, if we want to clear cap space so badly.
Udrih\Brown
Martin\Jackson\Douby
Marion\Garcia
Thompson\Greene\Randolph
Hawes\S. Williams
We'd only have about $35-36million on the books next year (including our picks). Although something I might prefer would be substituting in Shelden for Mikki in the Miami trade. The only reason I wouldn't is because of the $2million guaranteed for Mikki next year. But I definitely like his veteran presence. Otherwise, after all of these deals, B-Jax would really be our only vet left.

Honestly, I think at this moment that Bayless is off limits from the Blazers unless they are getting a huge upgrade. So, I really do not see them giving up Bayless for the package you mention.
