What do you guys think of him?
I know Kings have signed May but I guess there is an other spot available in the roster for a big guy especially if Kenny Thomas is waived (is it possible?) or doesn't get play time. Petro can play solid minutes as power forward or center, he is very long and athletic, good shot blocker. His offensive game isn't quite polished enough but he is still very young. I'm sure that all he needs is to be in the good team to have the confidence to play well. Issue is lack of toughness and questionable attitude but coach Westphal can fix that easily. It's really not a big gamble considering his last season, Kings could sign him for minimum.
Plus, he is playing quite well with french national team trying to qualify for European Championship where his role is very important since Noah left them to return in Chicago.

Re: Johan Petro
I wouldn't mind him simply because he has some size. But as far as I can tell, we wouldn't have to waive Kenny to acquire him.
Evans\Udrih\Rodriguez
Martin\Garcia
Nocioni\Casspi
Thompson\Greene\Brockman\Thomas
Hawes\May
We've got the roster space and could use the size. He likely wouldn't get much PT, but you could probably say that about him anywhere at this point.
I will say that that it's naive to say that Westphaul could just "easily fix" his lack of toughness and questionable attitude. A lot of players never change that.

I agree, I think the Kings need a 7 footer to round out the roster. He seems as good an option as any at such a low price.

Re: Johan Petro
Petro is a scrub we dont need even if its for the minumum
Every dollar saved counts for either signing someone better or through trade later in the season as that deadline approaches ! Having cap space etc. & flexibility is the key to most deals late in the season !

I actually really like Petro, but if we add anymore young guys 1 or 2 will be nothing but bench fodder anyway.

Re: Johan Petro
You know, Rod Benson looked pretty good from what I saw in the D-league and Summer league. Wasn't he on one of our summer league teams a few years ago or was going to be on one and ended up not?

Still no love for my boy Ryan Hollins on this board huh? Well looks like he'll sign with the Wolves. I think he's better than Petro and would probably cost around the same?

I've always like Petro and wouldn't be upset to bringing him in for a min contract. His biggest problem was that he was a big project. Unfortunately I think he might be still a bit of a project.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

Re: Johan Petro
That's true, he's talented and has great physical tools but he seems to have problems on how to use it properly. There's always some kind of frustration watching him play because I think he could turn in a very good player. It was the same when he played in french league with Pau Orthez, he should have dominate. I mean he was good but held back his game. He derserves to be in the right place with a coach who gives his confidence and helps him to give it all on the court.
Anyway, he played with France in EuroBasket Additional Qualifying Round vs Italy. Unfortunately, he was bad : 7mins, 2pts (1/2fg), 1 rbd, 1 (stupid) to and 3 fouls.
Not in rythm at all, very slow on his legs and kind of lost on the court. Plus he was out rebounded by italians, guys who didn't have his body but wanted more. When you see Turiaf playing with heart, his huge activity...I hope Johan could learn from him. We'll see vs Finland tomorrow.
