Operation Sellout. First 2 games of season will be sold out?

Post#1 » by KF10 » Wed Oct 14, 2009 1:17 am

Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson and Kings co-owners Joe and Gavin Maloof gathered some of the region's most influential businessmen Tuesday with a shared mission in mind: sell out the Kings' first two home games.

I'll have more detail on this venture in tomorrow's paper, but it's essentially a push to sell tickets at the big boy level and have more concentrated efforts to sell individual tickets sprouting from there. The campaign committee on hand included Mike Daugherty, John Frisch, Matt Haines, Lloyd Harvego, Gerry Kamilos, Sotiris Kolokotronis, Hayden Markstein, Arlen Opper, Randy Paragary, Chevo Ramirez, Tim Ray, Bruce Scheidt, Tim Stenvick and Allen Warren.

Mayor and Kings collaborate Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and a "prestigious group of Sacramento business leaders" will announce today at Arco Arena a plan to sell out the first two Kings home games this season.

Kings co-owners Joe and Gavin Maloof, Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie, Westphal and members of the business group will be at the news conference.

Attendance continued to decline at Arco last season as losses piled up. The Kings had only three sellouts last season.

The Kings attendance is really hurting:

I hope the Kings can straighten things out. I'd love to have a team here in San Jose but I wouldn't wish losing your team on anyone.

It should get better this year with hopefully a slightly more exciting team and the Maloofs slashing ticket prices (last year the team was very disproportionally high in the price of tickets in comparison to the team's performance).

The hope, I guess, is that more people in the seats will mean better performance in home games which will then lead to even more people in seats. I certainly think it's a better solution than keeping the ticket prices where they were.

^^Last year's attendance numbers were pretty self=explanatory: sucky team with an even suckier economy is the perfect recipe for people not to show up to Arco...especially when the price tag is where the Maloofs have it (they had the 8th highest average ticket price in the league last year). I don't care where the team plays, people won't pay top dollar to watch festering garbage. I haven't seen where ticket prices are set for this year, but if they have not dropped to a more reasonable price, people still won't show.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

They have dropped considerably. I don't remember how much, and IIRC, it's still not necessarily proportional to the team's performance (very bottom of the league), but it should make a very visible difference.

That is a good sign that they are at least realizing what the market price of tickets are.

My tickets still show the same price on the front from last year so take advantage of the deal(s) while they are there.

^^Well I know the deals only applied to certain areas of seating, so maybe that's what happened with you. But over all, there was a price cut.

mitch my dad is a season ticket holder, and he paid below ticket value. The ticket however has the same price on it as last season. If you go to ticketmaster.com the same price structure exists from last year so IF there are any sales left take advantage. Otherwise there wasn't a price cut buddy.

For renewing the season tickets we got 10% off. They have game packages that are decent deals, but if you want to go to one game then you pay regular price.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but there was an article months ago that wasn't speculative--it was an announcement that the prices were being cut. It wasn't across the board, but some situations will definitely be cheaper.

It was cut if you wanted to buy 44 tickets.

Do you have a website on deals for tickets? I'm coming home for Christmas and would like to get a couple tickets on the cheap.

Ticketmaster sells Kings tickets exclusively but you may be better off using like Stub Hub or something? I'm sure you'll be able to find the tickets cheaper there.
