Should Kevin give up his number?

Post#1 » by Dustin5566 » Sat Nov 14, 2009 9:32 pm

Do you guys think Kevin should give up his number?

I do not think he should just because LeBron says everyone should. I like the idea of retiring it to honor the GOAT, but if they do it should be like baseball did with Jackie Robinsons where all players still wearing the number can continue to do so.

Martin isn't obliged to LeBron's comments and statements.

.......

But the idea of retiring MJ's number from the league is interesting though.

after playing for 6 years with number 23 lebron suddenly decides to "honor jordan" ?!
just a publicity stunt- to get some headlines in the media and to boost shirt sells next year when he changes his number.

i really hope martin wont change his.

I hate when athletes' change thier numbers. They're just flipping numbers, big deal. Keep a number and stop trying to have fans buy your jersey again.

I think Kevin would definitely give up his number to honor Jordan.

This is a load of crap.

What happens next? Do we now have to go back and retire the numbers of Dr. J? Wilt? Kareem? Magic? Bird? George Mikan? Every one of these guys impacted and changed the game in his own style and era. But by retiring a number for the entire league, you make a guy bigger than the game and THAT should NEVER happen.

On top of this, Jordan - for all he was to the game - just got done with a childish rant and petulant pathetic hissy fit for his HOF induction speech. Now you want to turn around on that lovely thanks and make him bigger than the game?

Go find another way to pad your bank account LeBron. Oh, and BTW, enjoy not winning a championship until you learn that it is a TEAM game.

I actually think their will be a number of players who will give up the number next year just because LeBron said to do it and becasue they are sheep. I would love to see everyone change numbers except K-Mart.

I am not in favor of this because LeBron said it, if the NBA did it I would be fine with it though.

I remember a rookie year halftime piece where Kevin said Chris Webber was his favorite player growing up and thats why he was so excited the Kings drafted him. He even had a framed Webber Jersey in his room

MJ was his idol. There's a reason why he showed up to MJ's HOF speech.

If he changes his number, it should be because he wants too. I think James needs to shut up and focus on this team and not worry about jersey numbers

MJ's # shouldn't be retired league wide, it's just foolish.

LJ was just being conceited, it isn't about MJ, "if I don't wear it, no one else should"..., that's just bogus, it was all a publicity stunt and method to garner more money via jersey sales.

Or it's a hint he's (LBJ) is going to either Chicago or Miami. Those are the two places where Michael Jordan's number is already retired and he'd have to change his number anyway.

good point.
i actually didnt know miami also retired 23 :P.
just another point to think about if we are speculating- he stays in cleveland and thats his only way to increase jersy sales (cause obviously if he moves it will boost his sales, if he stays he gotta come up with something original to fool some fans).
