Just got back. Not the most pleasant game to be at. To me, it boiled down to pretty simple stuff.
Defensively, I thought the team lacked some energy. Strategically everything was fine, but there just wasn't as much consistent energy. Having said that, the sixers also just had a ridiculous shooting night for them. Not much you can do about that. You're supposed to give them that outside shot. They usually won't make it. Tonight they did. I'm calling that an anomaly. And it was tough because it not only resulted in more made shots in the obvious sense, but it also let them spread the floor. And not even looking at the 3's, there were just a lot of made jumpers that aren't usually going to fall at quite that rate. Having said all of that, the effort wasn't there consistently all night. Also, we really struggled with transition D. We only had 12 turnovers, but it often seemed like a lot more. I don't know what their points off of TO's was, but it felt like they made us pay with their speed every time.
Offensively, to me, it boiled down to not having an inside presence. We never seemed to really give Spencer much of a shot inside, Jason had a decent game statistically, but really couldn't consistently get things going. Sergio was all right--but I really feel like his stats make him look better than he actually played. And we saw what happened with Donte inside. He made some nice plays, but as a go-to post option tonight, the idea was right in terms of exploiting the matchup, but he just doesn't have the playmaking abilities yet to really be a force in there. We saw it especially at the beginning of the game. Philly knew we were going to go to that mismatch with Donte in the post, and they crashed, and it worked. Donte just isn't a good enough passer to be that guy yet--even when he has that mismatch.
In short, offensively, we really really missed Tyreke tonight. But I would like to reiterate that we should go to Spencer more in the post. He may have some bad games statistically, but I think it can really pay dividends in the long run.
