Fatigue could be a factor with his recent free throw slump, and I do believe that will go back up especially without the necessity to play him almost the entire game (he played a lot of near 40 and 40+ minute games). You can also imagine Westphal was trying to sqeeze in as much practice time in as he could.
Once again, I never said he's THE guy to build around, Tyreke is, Landry appears to have the tools to be a legit 2nd option offensively and the stats agree. When you have a ball dominant guard, your 2nd option needs to do the best he can with the attempts he's given, and so far Carl is doing quite fine in that regard. You seem to have this false impression that I'm saying Landry is the type of talent you solely build your team around. Not the case at all.
Many, many times I've seen it stated that Kevin is "more of a number 2 option", well if Landry is similar, what's the difference??? I'm saying he can be a NUMBER 2 OPTION. The only difference between Kevin and Carl I see is a positive one, Tyreke and Landry don't occupy the same position or spot on the floor therefor they can and thus far have worked quite well together. It would be awesome to have an "unstoppable" 2nd option but that's far from the norm and while possible for us, not likely to the extent of the players you listed. At times Carl is unstoppable and is at the very least one of the most consistent post to mid-range scorers you're going to find. Everything I see tells me there's only one thing going wrong here, not enough shot attempts for Carl Landry. He should be taking at least the 2nd most shot attempts per game.
Yeah, he's still efficient, but not nearly as efficient when you put him in that situation. That's my point there.
What you did say is that the team should build around Tyreke and Landry.
I think when you get down to it, my main point is that you shouldn't build around somebody as your second option because he's the second option right now and he's pretty good at it. There are some other guys who I would consider legitimate second (or in some cases, 1b) options as bigs: Bosh, Gasol, Boozer, Stoudemire (in terms of going straight to him for offense), a healthy Jefferson, a motivated Aldridge, Elton Brand of a few years ago. I just don't see Landry as being in that class. I see Landry more in the class with a normal Aldridge, or David West, or maybe Zach Randolph.
