Re: Current State of the Team
that's the thing...this team is just one player away from being complete...it's ok to have the money commited. we just need to save up enough money for a shooter...i don't know why this is so inconceivable to believe that we have an almost complete team. it needs to stay the same....these group of guys tyreke, cousins, omri, donte, JT, whiteside, beno, garcia, and landry are our core guys that need to stay together...in 2 seasons this core is a championship contender in the next three years this exact team is enough (all 9 + shooter) to compete for a championship in this league and good enough to win it...we trade any of them and then we gotta start all over again to find pieces for the bench (and cheap ones)...i rather overpay a guy that has been on this team and has shown he deserves a spot on this team and the money (even though he's a bench guy) than to trade for an overpaid player that might or might not fit in with our squad.

^^I didn't say to trade for an over paid player or one that wouldn't fit in. My thought was that we use landry and Dalembert and one of Casspi or Greene to bring back useless expirings and a perfect fit at PG and backup center.

I wasn't sure if I should make a separate thread for this or not, so I'll just post this here.
How the Sacramento Kings Measure Up

I thought the article was eh. I think the assessment of Beno was good, but there were a few head scratchers like saying that Donte Greene is "less-than-stellar" on defense, and that Jason Thompson took a step back this past season. I also think Cousins should start, and possibly JT.

Re: Current State of the Team
Note on Dalembert from a Sixers fan. He achieved his first double-double season in 07-08. Over the next two seasons, inept coaching saw his minutes DECREASE by 25%, not increase by 8-10%. I'm a Sixers fan but I was glad to see him out of town and with a fresh start on a good team.
He shoots a very decent FT% and has an effective jumper out to 15 feet. His defence is elite. He can play man defence on any center in the league except for, maybe, Dwight. He has his own hyperbaric chamber and is an iron man who plays though injury.
His defence is so good that he could prove to be a real bonus for the Kings.

I thought the article was pretty good actually, especially when you consider the Kings are a small town team that a lot of people don't pay strict attention to.
Also although he says Thompson took a "small" step backwards last season, he doesn't really criticize him all that much.
"Jason Thompson, after a solid rookie campaign two years ago, took a small step backward during his sophomore season, but is a double-double threat every night and will be a tremendous asset (and one of the best back-up power forwards) in the NBA this season."
I don't know if it's fair to say Thompson took a step backwards, small or not, but I do think it's fair to say he didn't improve as much as most of us would've liked.
Also I think his assesment of Donte Greene is pretty spot on,
"Donte' Greene and Hassan Whiteside are both phenomenal athletes with tons of potential, but Greene's limited ball-handling ability and less-than-stellar defense and Whiteside's inexperience and overall lack of polish will result in inconsistency this season."
Phenominal athlete with tons of potential, check.
Limited ball handling ability, check
Less than stellar defender, I think that's fair I mean he's not a bad defender but is in the top 5 or 10 in the league? That to me would count as "stellar", I say check.

wasn't really referring to comments made by you individually. just comments in general about ppl here wanting to trade for other pieces that might or might not work well on our team, when the pieces we have now we know FOR SURE work well together. not really referring to you personally...

Assume we give Evans the max, 14mil
Assume cousins earns the max, 14mil
Asume we keep udrih 7mil
Assume Garcia is still here 5 mil
Assume we resign Greene to about 7 mil deal
Thompson gets a 10 mil deal
Casspi gets his money
You see where I'm going with this right we financially can't afford to keep all of these guys, so instead we look t consolidate talent to keep our finances in check. Luckily for us we locked whiteside into a 4 year deal on the cheap that was very smart thinking on petries part. I just don't want our team to dig a financial hole that we can't get out of.
Why not? If this team proves to become a winner later on down the line, why the heck NOT pay whatever to keep them together. So long as you don't OVERpay too much. And considering we HAD money this offseason and DIDN'T spend it, how's keeping our young talent together gonna be that much of a problem? Do we do like New Orleans and dump everybody just to save a couple bucks, without regard to the quality of the product on the floor?
