Player Comparisons
So after seeing a little bit of Cousins in Summer league he doesn't remind me at all of Eddy Curry. He actually reminds me of Chris Webber. Now DMC isn't anywhere as smooth as C-Webb. He has MANY MORE tools than displayed @ Kentucky though. He can post, face up, shoot 15' and in, rebound. I'm sorry but I see C-Webb. He dribbles too much...C-Webb. Goes away from the post when he should dominate there...C-Webb.
Also looking at the depth chart on Yahoo!:
Thompson
Cousins
Casspi
Greene
Evans
The more I think about it the more it makes sense! All it does is put JT in the high post area and Cousins in the low post. I really like this lineup. It's long. It can defend. It can run. It's going to turn the ball over too much, but hey I think that's a fun team to watch.

Re: Player Comparisons
I see the c-web comparison but a much larger dude, which could make for a he'll of a threat.
I
As for the lineup I'm just not sold in Evans at the point full time, I prefer udrih starting next to him.

Re: Player Comparisons
I definitely see a center version of Chris Webber! I think Webber saw it too. Those passes he made in summer league literally gave me flashbacks of those days. The so-called draft experts said that Monroe was the best passer and had the most skill, but in my opinion he doesn't even touch Cousins. I think Cousins might've been the guy Petrie wanted all along, and Monroe was never really in contention. He also looks like everything that we wanted out of Hawes, but only got miniscule portions of. Perhaps the Princeton isn't completely dead in Sac after all, especially if we can get Evans proficient at moving without the ball.

Ya I can definitely see the similarities. I thought the same thing.

Re: Player Comparisons
I see the similarities but Cousins will be more effective in the post rather than in the perimeter. Webber was much more effective in the perimeter due to his awesome court vision and passing abilities.

Re: Player Comparisons
I'm thinking Cousins was the guy all along as well. I think our draft process was preparing for plan B, and not A. Yeah Webb didn't have a great perimeter game until he came here. He used to just dunk on everyone.

Re: Player Comparisons
his comparison to me isnt Chris Webber. Carlos Boozer averages 3 assists per game, both have brad miller athleticism, great at rebounding, definently think hes going to be like Carlos Boozer.

so hes gonna average 27 11 4 2 blocks 1 steal at one point.....lol. Blake Griffin has a way more higher ceiling and he might never ever be able do that. Cousins averaged 1 assist per game in college, also he averaged 1.8 assists in summer league. He didnt even play that well. 14 and 10 on 33 PERCENT SHOOTING.

Ya because that's exactly what I said. I disagree that Blake Griffin has a higher ceiling, and I can assure you that he WILL NEVER average those numbers. Griffin is the Carlos Boozer type--not Cousins. He didn't play that well the last 2 games, but he still isn't in the best shape and the schedule was very rigorous. Regardless, he's 19 and he showed flashes of pure dominance--that's really what you want to see--potential. He will probably end up with similar stats to Boozer at some point, but his impact will be greater (something stats don't measure).
Also saying he has Brad Miller athleticism is a pretty bad exaggeration. Miller couldn't jump over a Hershey Bar.

If you meant a:
-Taller
-Longer
-Better defensive potential
-Better passing
-Better foul drawing
-Better shooting
Al Jefferson. I guess, he will be like Al Jefferson.

I think I said this way back in the day, put CWebb's hands and brain in Jamaal Magloires body and you have DMC.

Re: Player Comparisons
Interesting point hre.
I just pulled up Webber's college stats for kicks and I found that his assist numbers were 2.2 per and 2.4 per in his two years at Michigan. quite interesting especially when you compare the fact that his PG was Jalen Rose - who although a nice floor general/ballhandler, was a score first big guard and didn't exactly hog the assist numbers. DMC was with arguably the guy who may turn out to be the best point of his generation and was pretty much made to stay in the post and look to score first AND second.
What it boils down to - especially for big men - is that you either have floor vision and the ability to pass or you do not. It seems pretty obvious to me that DMC DOES have both of these raw abilities. It becomes then incumbent to teach him when to pass vs. looking to score.

Re: Player Comparisons
Yeah. Doesn't necessarily make him the next big to avg 5 apg but it's possible. He's certainly more Webb/Vlade than Brad Miller. Adelman once said Miller was a better quarterback than Vlade or Webb but unlike those two if he wasn't in the right system he isn't racking up the assists. Webb, Vlade, and now Cousins all have that unique natural court awareness. They are the types of players that regardless of system they are going to make plays for their teammates. You simply cannot teach that. No if he can get the "quarterbacking" ability down like a Brad Miller he'll be unreal.
