NBA PM: Goodbye Sacramento Kings?

WOW! My condolences.

As a life time Seattle Super Sonic fan and now a begrudgingly OKC Thunder fan I feel your pain. LITERALLY!

I really hope some how your city can find a way to work this out.

Stern is a puppet. His job is to represent the owners wishes. Don't expect that guy to do anything other than say. "If the city of Sacrameto doesn't want to pay for a new arena that's fine they can choose to do that". But what he is really saying, your city filled of working joes needs to build a stadium for our billionaires club so that we can find entertainment in watching millionaires play a game and if you don't we are going to take our game to some other city who we can P whip into getting what we want.

We all know the Maloofs could pay for it themselves but that isn't a good business decision. It's easier to let another city build an arena for them and roll on into a sweet heart deal.

Sorry Sac fans I'm really hoping for the best for you guys but I feel darker days are on there way.

My money's still on San Jose if they move. Nor Cal is big enough for 2 teams in or around the same area. San Jose is the only place I think the Kings can go and get the same kind of fan base they have in Sac. Would really suck if they move but it's really starting to look like options are running out. The NBA basically putting their foot down and bailing is a very shocking statement IMO.

The sad part is if the Kings move the Sac area's going to need a new arena anyway. I just don't get it. I've heard all the debate on private/public money but if history is any indicator some sort of public money has to be involved. Privately financing an arena of that magnitude is an absolute money pit and it's been proven before. I think some of these big wig politicians should take pay cuts and a portion of that money can go towards building a new arena, there you go, problem fixed.

Reading on Sactownroyalty, I think the only Stadium that has been founded almost entirely on private funds was ATT park in San Fran. However, even then there was public money used.

In the end Sacramento will need a new multi-purpose venue. WIth the Kings at least they have a tenant for 44 games a year. That makes it easier to make money on it. I am really curious on how much money the Kings bring to Sacramento. I would also be curious how much money a New Arena would bring especially if it was built in the Rail yard.

And if I recall, that was one of the more prominent case examples brought up by the Maloofs' camp as to why you don't fund an arena yourself.

Isn't Arco gonna need a new arena anyways? I always see mma fights and concerts being held there all the time its not like it's strictly for the kings benefit to build a new arena.

That's the Maloofs argument. It's not just "their" arena. It's the citizens of Sacramentos arena.

I've been following this for a while and I think the Maloofs are either going to choose between Anaheim, San Jose, Kansas City or Newark in that order. Anaheim is desperate for an NBA team and the City Council has worked hard to get one plus have renovation plans to built a practice facility for an NBA team as well if you look up the articles on Google.

The Maloofs have met with San Jose officials and I'm sure they're interested in Seattle if an arena can be built or renovated. I don't know if Kansas City would work because AEG who run the Sprint Center won't give up a sweetheart lease deal and seem to want an NHL team for some reason.

I think Newark, NJ is a real possibility because the market can handle 3 NBA teams, a regional network doesn't have sports to show from the Fall to Spring from SNY (SportsNet New York) which would be willing to pay for programming and the Nets who have technically have the rights to New Jersey have told the City of Newark that it would not stand in the way of them getting another NBA team.

So my guess would be if the Kings cannot stay in Sacramento that they'll choose between Anaheim or Newark as the teams new location. Hopefully something gets done but the first pin has dropped and by March if the team isn't selling tickets, they'll seriously consider relocation.

I doubt the Kings would let them move east. It would screw up the balance between the conferences. I agree, it's between Anaheim and San Jose. I still think San Jose since it's not across the planet from where they are now and the Bay area is more than big enough for two teams. 3 in LA is pushing it.

Always thought they lived in Natomas.

Although, Adelman's son went to Granite Bay and Turner's son (a classmate of mine) went to Roseville.

Either way, the Galleria can hold like...400 people in bleacher seats, just like they did over the summer for the WTT. Wouldn't that be cool? An outdoor stadium in the mall parking lot? Get a lil Cheesecake Factory before the game, shop at Nordy's after? Sounds like a great night to me!
