Operation find a leader

Post#1 » by Dustin5566 » Mon Nov 29, 2010 6:18 am

In light of Jason Jones' article it is clear that the Kings are a team without a leader. we need one in the worst way. The question is how and who?

http://www.sacbee.com/2010/11/28/3216462/kings-collapse-in-fourth-quarter.html

I think calling Antonio Daniels up from the D-league would be good. He is a veteren and has been on a champion Spurs team so knows what a good team looks like. I think he could bring a calming influence to the team or at least the guards. He would not demand much to any playing time.

Any other thought??

I don't think bringing in someone who is an unknown (in their eyes) will be able to demand respect from our young players. If anything, Garcia needs to step up, since he's been with the team the longest and is our "veteran" player on the team.

The only problem I have with this is IMO to be a leader a player needs to have a strong impact with his on court performance day in and day out. Leaders lead by example and its hard to do that from the bench. I'm not saying that in every scenario a leader should be the best player but I believe Garcia's skills are too limited to grab anyone's attention.
I really think with our current roster Tyreke is the only one capable of leading. He really needs to grow up and make smarter decisions first because his reckless offensive play hurts the team sometimes. He needs to improve his shooting percentage by making passes and creating for others instead of taking wild shots.

Ya the problem is, guys who play consistently well and are leaders aren't very available. The only person who I could think of is Billups, but that wouldn't happen until Melo leaves. I don't care how old he is, he would do wonders here imo (not that he'd ever want to stay).

GARCIA Is not the leadership answer nor is DALY , LANDRY or BENO for that matter if any of our vets who have been in the NBA for awhile now were going to be leaders they should have & would have by now .
Whoever we get when we get a guy that can be our leader has to be someone established enough to instantly command the respect of the team & that will be hard to find right now this year as our team will not make the playoffs so their is no point in getting a veteran guy like that who will be unhappy playing for a losing team that is in termoil right now.
Additionally with the potential lock out & hard cap next year the KINGS wont be stupid enough to overspend via trade etc. on a veteran who is not going to be a long term great addition to our team etc.
So unless we were to shockingly get a younger star player who has played a few years but commands respect then that guy wont be found this year .

Vets possibly NASH , BILLIPS (RISKY GOING FOR IT ) = MELO & Very slim chance of getting him = CP3
outside of those guys i doubt we get that vet this year .
