No loss...and most likely just a cost cutting move to save the Maloofs a couple of bucks.

His contract was fully guaranteed, so it doesn't save the team any money either way.

Wright could have been a minor problem and this is a message telling everyone to cool it.
Could be a message that we aren't afraid to lose some money in order to keep on track.
Message to Westphal that he can be replaced because Maloofs aren't scared to lose a couple million
Message could be to the players that they can be moved or replaced if they don't shape up.

Literally these type of things could be a message to just about anyone on the roster or in the organization.

To add to that:

I don't know if Westphal is included in these decisions, but I wonder if Petrie/Maloofs are saying, "There, now you won't give Wright minutes for Christ's sake!" I mean, I'm sure Petrie intended him to just be a bench warmer, only used in time of injury, just to fill out the roster. Then the season started and he's playing ahead of guys like Greene and Casspi. Geoff's probably like "WTF Paul?" Kind of like taking an air horn away from a 5 year old.

Probably looking way too into it, but hey, that's what I do.

If the Kings just intended him to be a bench warmer, I seriously doubt they would have given him a guaranteed contract.

Posted that before realizing that he said he had a guaranteed contract. But since I don't think he ever disclosed all the terms, it's possible that there were some limits to those guarantees...who knows.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

I'm not so sure about that because it came up during that live internet stream they had of media day. They asked him something about if he thought he had a shot at making the team and he almost had an offended look on his face and basically responded that he wasn't worried because his contract was fully guaranteed so he'd make it for sure.
