Amick claimed the Kings called Houston offering Dalembert. Likely a reaction to the Yao is thinking of retiring talk. The Rockets beat reporter quickly went from the Rockets were actively shopping Yao to the Rockets have had talks w/Sac and others. Initially he read as if Hou was making the calls, next few stories he shifted to Hou was "talking"
It looks like the Rockets then countered w/asking for Cousins as well and the Kings said "nice talking to you".

Rockets need a big black guy who plays some defense.

The Rockets are in a position of weakness. They're trying to trade away a guy who most likely never play a full season, and possibly never a game again. You're not going to get much value for that...

Like I said in a few threads across RealGM, Morey is overrated. All of these big contracts and little to show for it  Even when Yao was alright, they didn't get very far.

We see contract dumps every year. Some team looking to save $$$ might really want Yao, but that's the sticking point, why would they trade expirings, picks, and youth to get him? They might save some money short term, but I'm positive they'd only be looking at Yao to save real money long term. If the Rockets agree to take on a bad contract or two I can totally see them getting close to the package they want, but those requests for expirings should kill it because it's like having their cake and eating it too.

The Kings/Petrie is on record as saying no thank you.

What's left to talk about?

Yao actually should still be something of a valuable trade piece even if his injury outlook is as bad as it looks. His involvement with the franchise and some hope (even dishonest hope) that he may return and play for your team is going to bring in a massive international audience. It wouldn't help basketball-wise, but it would financially.

I don't know, he's not playing this year and he's completely unrestricted this summer. I don't know how you could even begin to promote that.
