Demarcus cousins pouting adjustment

Post#1 » by DemarcusCousins » Sun Jan 9, 2011 8:58 pm

Anybody notice that he didnt pout that much and controlled it in todays game against the raptors?
Do you think his mother and friends had a talk with him after reggie miller was talking about him thursday night?
It looked liked he tried hard to keep it in and not show it.
What do you guys think?

Yes, I noticed too. He really seems to recognize his mistakes and tries to correct them.

And since I've never seen you before... Welcome to the RealGM Kings board!

Welcome aboard!

Generally, Demarcus really wants to change, but he'll always have some troubles with this stuff. That goes with the territory when you're just a really emotional guy. I have confidence that he'll continue to get better in this way though.

Wow, he seemed to still pout a fair bit. Enough that I noticed it. He used to pout even more?

Did he lose weight? He seems a bit smaller than when we last played.

Oh yeah, last game he had some pretty big tantrums. Better in this one.

For about the last month or so Cousins has looked like hes lost some weight. Probably eating better, I remember watching something on NBATV where Daniel Shapiro, Kings conditioning coach, was telling him what foods to eat.

The bad side here is he turns into an Amare type defender.

He's thinking so hard "don't foul, don't foul" that he gives up SO MANY free points.

But hey man, we need him on the floor.. so I can't blaim him for that.

Maybe someone keeps swapping his mouth guard with a lemon slice? ;)

Ha, all kidding aside, it's nice to see he may be maturing.

It's an adjustment defensively. Don't forget his early season foul troubles have certainly made him gun shy on that end of the floor. I just wish he'd stop looking to take that charge and instead just stand there with his hands up. It seems like every time he does that he effects the shot due to his extremely long arms and it would leave him about 1 less foul per game that he picks up.

When he tries I've been really impressed with his defense. He gambles too much but he's showing improvement. Like that thing about trying to strip the opposing guard in the backcourt is finally gone at least.

I never post on here, but figured since I have some inside information I would...

Midway through the Denver/Sac game (game before the Raptors game), Cousins had been pulled out for complaining. He came to the bench and was acting like a dick. Sitting on the far end of the Kings bench are 4 Rocklin varsity baseball players. One began talking with Cousins, and Cousins was acting very nice, even offering to give him signed shoes after the season is over. The player said that while Cousins was in a good mood, asked him why he complains so much, and gives the coach a reason to remove him from the game. Demarcus had a somewhat eye opening moment, and said the kid was right. He said its time for a change and went back into the game with a new attitude. He gave the kid a hug (which can be seen during the broadcast on TNT), and hopefully took a step towards being a man and a basketball player.

I just thought I would give a little insight into the matter since I know about the situation. Also wanted to give a shout out to the Rocklin baseball players who talked with him and told them the lessons they are learning as members of the Rocklin varsity baseball team. Maybe Cousins missed having that coach that the Rocklin baseball players have, one that didn't let them slide on being dicks, and teach them how to be a man. This can end up being a turning point in Cousins career, and one that could have a great affect on the franchise.

Welcome to Realgm! I dont think this is the first time we have noticed a change in the way Demarcus has played or approached the game. It seems as of late each week you can see his growth as a player and a professional. Looks like he is recognizing he can grow and is listening.

You should post here more often, especially if you got this inside information! How do you hear this info if I may ask?

I actually know the kids involved. Great kids passing on great messages learned from their coach. Act like a man, and take responsibility for your actions. Same philosophy that has made the team section champs 3 out of the last 4 years. Its funny how sometimes it takes just a little something like that to make a big difference in life, and hopefully Cousins can follow through on his promise to continue playing like this. If I can figure out how, I will post the picture of the hug the two young men had.

Remember when CWebb got here he was 25 and the Mavs walked through the paint in the playoffs, with Vlade a 10 year vet next to him.

It took them 5 years together to get to championship level.

CWebb was cut 2 traded 2 times by 25.

You just can't expect DMC to instantly be there.

Rookies are called rookies because they make more mistakes.

Or Jason Thompson to make up for everything.

He just had his 2 years playing with Hawes flushed away by the Maloofs and has to start all over with another rookie.

The rebuilding on defense starts all over every time you make a core player move or coach.

A rule the Maloofs used to respect, now give the finger.

See failure results.

Wow that's awesome. I hate RHS but their baseball coach may have indirectly helped Cousins' career.

...and I definitely remember seeing that hug.
