Our 9 player rotation looks like this:
Evans
Udrih
Cousins
Dally
Casspi
Thompson
Landry
Greene
Jeter.
If we could upgrade Landry, Greene, and Jeter this summer we would be looking pretty nice.
Landry could be West or Jeff Green
Greene could be Prince or Battier or maybe Perry Jones out of the draft
Jeter could be Aaron Brooks or maybe Irving out of the draft.
Could you imagine this team....
Cousins/Dally
West/Thompson
Prince/Casspi
Evans/Garcia
Irving/Beno
or
Cousins/Dally
J. Green/Thompson
P.Jones/Casspi
Evans/Garcia
Brooks/Beno
Bottom line is we need to upgrade our PF, SF, and PG position, and I dont mean our starting lineup but for sure our 9 player rotation. We need to get 2 upgrades in FA and 1 in the draft

And in 4 years he will be 35. Name five players that were on the top of their game @ 35? Read the bold font. If we're going to bring in other people around him "ie" win now...YES. If we're talking about just David West, then no!! By the time we're competitive he won't be effective.
Doesn't have to be on "the top of his game". We aren't asking him to be our best player, just a very good 3rd option which is what somebody making around 10-11 million a year is.
30 plus year olds on contending teams? Lets look at some contending teams. The Celtics have a 38, 35, 34, and a 32 year old as a major part of their rotation. The Mavs have a 38, a 33, and two 32 year olds making up a main part of their rotation. The Spurs have a 36, 34, and 33 year old in their rotation.
West won't likely be the type of player that loses all that much effectiveness since what he does is largely based on skill. You add someone like him this summer, maybe a Prince or a Battier, maybe make a trade during the season, use some more cap the next summer and wham, you're a legit playoff team with the right coach and system.
The Celtics and Mavs have other pieces, so you just made my point! Thanks

If we're going to JUST acquire David West then NO! I'd rather just roll with what we have. He's not going to make much of a difference on his own. If you don't like my opinion keep arguing, but it seems to me like you agree, no?

And all of those 35 y/o players have seen their best basketball come and go! By bringing in D. West on his own you're essentially making him the focal point of the team I think. Otherwise why would he come here? There are more attractive places to go. If he can get in with a bunch of 30 y/o's like himself for him that's a better fit.

I hope I'm wrong, but I see the career trajectory path of Hassan Whiteside being on target to that of Keon Clark on the high end. I wouldn't bank on Whiteside being the "PF of the future". We may get that in the draft this year with Sullinger or either of the Jones' boys. Thompson may be that player too. There's still a lot of building left to do on this roster. Right now, we should just focus on accumulating value and assets. Then sort it out as our players develop their strengths and weaknesses.

Uh, might want to check up a little higher in the thread, was kind of my point too!

The Kings aren't just going to acquire David West and call it a day! No way, after that the part of maybe consolidating some of that young talent comes into play. Add a Prince or Battier type on the wing. Swap out Beno for a better defender/spot shooter (Cisco!!!), and we have something here.

I still think he's ready for a contract more in line with what he brings to the table. He's been one of those "underpaid" guys for a long time, he'll be looking for a situation where he can spread his wings I think. Don't know of too many teams out there that can both provide that situation and the money too. So....
