Agreed. Would OJ be the sixth man?
SacKingZZZ wrote:The workable thing about a guy like Mayo is he's a lot like Tyreke in that he plays more of a combo type of role. Between the two there is more than enough ball handling/play making. Defensively they'd be able to switch too, which I think is going to be an important factor for this team moving forward. We need guys that can switch on the perimeter so it will cut down on the easy pick and rolls teams get every game.
Because point guard by committee is working so well for Golden State.

He might buy into being the playmaker but that doesn't make him one. Memphis tried that and it didn't work. The more intriguing question is can Tyreke play the three? Personally I think he is too small, but OJ at the 2 and Tyreke at the 3 could work for short bursts.

Re: OJ Mayo
To me, pairing OJ Mayo and Tyreke together would be the real favorable outcome Isiah Thomas was seeking when he paired Stephon Marburry and Steve Francis together. Two guys who can handle the ball, put the ball in the hoop and have the ability to slash inside the paint to draw either fouls or double teams -- which then leads to open shots on the perimeter.
Really I would much rather Mayo be the one off ball more and by extension be the primary two guard in the lineup. Unlike Mayo, Evans does not have a reliable jump shot to be playing more of an off guard as yet.
A lineup of:
Cousins| Nene| Casspi| Mayo| Tyreke looks very intriguing! Mayo and Casspi as the outside shooters would be anything short of stellar. The floor spacing would do Evans wonders. Also it would allow his excessive over-dribbling not to hurt the team in the ways it does now.

Seems to have worked well for Lakers over the last 10 years or so. It's amazing how many doors open when you have a big that you can run offense through. I'm hoping one day that fact is realized even more than it is now and a true build can begin accordingly.
