I still think the Blazers could really use Landry for the stretch run of the season, but I question what long-term assets they'd realistically be willing to give up considering Landry is an expiring and that the Blazers may have a very hard time resigning him if the new CBA is as restrictive as many people expect.
Would you guys be willing to do something like this?
Luke Babbitt
Dante Cunningham
for
Carl Landry
Babbitt is a bit of a unknown since he's been glued to Nate's bench all season long. Cunningham is a nice "dirty work" player. His stats will never really blow you away (aside from the odd night like he had tonight against the Wolves when he put up 18 and 13), but he does a lot of the little things.
If that's a no-go, there also might be this option.....
Joel Przybilla
NOH (or POR) 1st Round Pick
for
Francisco Garcia
Carl Landry
I remember hearing an interview with a NBA "Insider" who said the Kings were interested in dumping Garcia's contract. Don't bother asking me where I heard it or for a link, it was too long ago to remember who and where I heard it and I don't have a link. But I do distinctly remember hearing it because I remember being told days before by Kings fans that they didn't have a problem with Garcia's contract, then hearing the exact opposite on the radio by a respected source.
I actually kind of question if the Blazers would make that deal. If the Blazers lose Landry in the summer (which I think would be a distinct possibility no matter what they would give up to get him), all they'd be stuck with is Garcia's less-than-desirable contract (which could look downright awful under the new CBA). The above deal also pushes the Blazers further into the luxury tax since they would take on more money than they send out.
But all that said, if I'm ignoring all salary implications, I'd make the deal if it interests the Kings.
Are any of these possible? Is there another deal that could be made?
And just to make it known since I know his name will come up..... No, I don't think the Blazers would trade Rudy Fernandez for Carl Landry. And no, it's not that I think that the Rudy is the better player or that Rudy has some crazy insane value. All things being equal, it would be a fair trade, but I just have little to no faith in the Blazers resigning Landry after the season and Rudy is playing too good for Portland right now. I'm not willing to trade (a happy) Rudy Fernandez for a more-than-likely 30 game rental of Landry.
